India Vs Australia, 5th Test Day 2 Highlights: IND Lead By 145 Runs At Stumps After Rapid Pant Fifty

The first ball on the second day of the fifth and final Test will be bowled at 5am IST, like the first day. The match is being live streamed on the Disney+Hotstar app and website and Star Sports TV channels in India.

Here we go then. Sam Konstas takes strike with Marnus Labuschagne being his partner. India scored 185 in the first innings. Mohammed Siraj will bowl the first over of the day.

A watchful start to the day from Australia. Konstas seems to be curbing his insticts while Labuschagne is taking his time. It is sunny today at the SCG unlike yesterday when it was overcast. Will that ease out conditions for batting? We will soon know.

There it is. Jasprit Bumrah just can not stop taking wickets. Length ball outside off. It keeps rising on Labuschagne as he hangs hit bat. The ball takes a faint edge and goes into the gloves of the wicket-keeper. Umpire does not give it out. So, Bumrah takes a review and the third umpire finds the edge. Labuschagne departs. India start with an important wicket.

Konstas brings out his reverse sweep. Batters think twice before attempting this shot even in T20s against Bumrah but this 19-year-old has just detached himself from the consequences. He has found yet another boundary with the reverse.

Konstas gone and India celebrate wildly. The crowd is loving it. At least the Indians in the crowd. Huge boos also sound at the SCG. Full ball from Siraj inviting Konstas to drive. The youngster obliges only to get a thick edge to gully where Jaiswal takes the catch. India get their third scalp.

Travis Head is out off the third ball he has faced. Siraj gets two in an over and the match has completely turned now. Siraj finds extra bounce from the short of a good length spot and Head can do no better than edge the ball to KL Rahul in the slips. The dangerous Head is now going back to the pavillion. India right on top now.

Smith launches this short ball from Prasidh Krishna over the mid-wicket fence for a maximum. This came out of nowhere. Krishna was bowling well but perhaps became a bit too predictable with his length and Smith gets a six.

Boundary to finish the over. This was a bad ball. Short and wide. Smith slaps it to the cover boundary. And that also brings up 50 for Australia. Things not going easy for this batting unit.

Krishna is leaking runs here. Short ball and Webster seemed to have enough time to sit back and slam his pull to the mid-wicket region for a boundary. The tall pacer bowled his first over maiden but in the next two overs he has gone for 14.

Bumrah with his first maiden of this innings. He has already taken two wickets and now he is trying to help Prasidh by creating pressure from one end. But Prasidh needs to sort his length issue. For Australia, Webster and Smith both are looking good. The pitch has quickened up but it is not seaming as wildly as it did yesterday and that is good news for Australia. It still has a lot of juice though and Indian bowlers would not let Aussies have it easy.

Another boundary. India can not afford consistent loose balls. This was short and wide from Siraj and Smith slammed it in the off side to add four runsto his tally.

All of a sudden, Australia are now on the front foot thanks to this stand. 50-run partnership is up between Webster and Smith. They do not taken 15 overs for that. Last few overs have been really bad for India. They canot leak runs. Thy do not have many.

Totally against the run of play. Smith was looking really good but Prasidh has forced him to edge one. Massive wicket for India.Rahul takes the catch and India get an important wicket.

First session done. India got four wickets. Australia pushed their score close to 100. Another good session of cricket. The tussle goes on. We will head for a break.

We are back for the second session now. Players are back on the field. Webster and Carey will have to do the heavylifting if Australia are to cross India's first innings total. Bumrah once again will be key for India.

Bumrah provides Carey with enough width for the wicket-keeper batter to slash hard at it and get a four to deep backward point. Second boundary of the session. Both overs so far have seen one boundary. India would not like that.

Beau Webster has raised a fifty on Test debut. Big innings from the debutant. Some years ago, he was an off-spinner who batted and now he is a medium pacer who is a good enough Test batter. Big transformation and he is going good today as well.

Siraj bowls Boland. Full delivery and it sneaks through Boland's defence and he is gone for nine. India take a 4-run lead.

Seems like Virat Kohli handled captaincy duties in the absence of Bumrah and Rohit. But anyway India take a four-run lead.

Jaiswal has been bowled. Scott Boland is coming up with unplayabble deliveries to put India in trouble. On a length, Jaiswal can neither go forward nor backward and looks to play from the crease. An authoritative shot from Kohli to get a boundary. Short ball from Boland and Kohli goes to pull in front of square. All he has to do is to beat the mid-off fielder and he does it with ease. The ball runs to the boundary and Kohli gets his first four.

Kohli edges to slips again. He is livid with himself and Australia can not be more delighted. And yet again it is Scott Boland who strikes. He has taken all three wickets in this innings. The ball was yet again just outside the off-stump and Kohli could have left it. But he is standing on the off-stump and has to play it. The disruptor has arrived and he slams the first ball for six. What a start for Rishabh Pant. Jumps down the crease and lofts it over long on fence for a six. Super start for Pant.

Now, he tries the reverse scoop. Just the third ball that he is facing and he goes for the reverse. But does not get connection.

The game is moving along at a ferocious speed. Beau Webster comes into the attack and he has Gill caught on the second ball. Gill jumps to this fullish delivery and is aiming to slam it towards midwicket. The ball seams in and gets an inside edge and Carey takes a good diving catch to his left. Pant would not let Boland settle. First ball of the fresh over and Pant jumps out his crease and slams this length ball over the bowler for a boundary. Pant is not stopping but how long can this assault last?

Unstoppable. He has slapped Webster for three consecutive boundaries. He knows there is no point letting bowlers bowl in the right areas. So, he is taking his chances and it is coming off nicely. That is why you do not criticise him when it does not comes off.

First half-century of the series for Pant and what a time to bring. Also, what a way to bring it. Just 29 balls taken and he smashed Starc over square leg for a six to get to the milestone. Second quickest Test half-century for India. What a blinder he is playing.

Another one goes for a six. Back-to-back sixes for Pant. Starc taken for a ride here. He is straying on the pads and Pant is lofting him behind the square for sixes.

Pant's madness ends here. We just had drinks and Cummins brought himself into the attack. This was not a wicket-taking ball though. Short and wide. Pant wants to cut but ends up with an outside edge. The catch is taken cleanly and the mayhem ends. But he goes after putting India in frontfoot in the match. 66 runs in 31 balls with six fours and three sixes. Stunning stuff from Pant.

Reddy caught at mid-off. It seemed Reddy and Jadeja were trying to go to stumps without losing a wicket but all of a sudden Reddy wants to loft Boland over mid-off. He does not time the ball well and it is taken with easy by Cummins. Reddy is really disappointed. He thought he had got a ball to release some pressure. But Boland is too good.

An edge and it is goingstraight in the hands of Usman Khawaja at first slip. But Steve Smith jumps in front of him with an outstretched left hand to spill the catch. Jadeja gets a life. Webster is denied and India can still hope for some more runs from this pair.

That will be the end of the second day's play. Another sensational day of cricket. Sundar and Jadeja will continue tomorrow. They will try to take India over 200 while Australia would love to restrict India under 175.

Action went like Ferrari today. Just too fast and totally in balance. India, despite Bumrah's absence, managed to eke out a 4-run lead by bowling out Australia for 181. Australia bowlers led by Scott Boland put India under pressure right at the start as the Indian top order failed yet again. Rishabh Pant then played a stunning knock to bring India back in the game. He raised the fastest fifty by a visiting batter in Australia before his dismissal again put India on the backfoot. At the end of the second day, we have India ahead by 145 runs but six wickets are down. Question mark on Bumrah's fitneess is also there. And all of that makes for a grand Day 3 which will definitely produce a result.
