• The Gabba saw frequent rain interruptions bring the game to a halt before India's lower-order fight helped them save the Test match and keep the series intact at 1-1.

• However, Melbourne saw things turn out different as Bumrah's bowling brilliance could not match India's batting in the 2nd innings as Australia sneaked in a 2-1 lead in the BGT.

Jasprit Bumrah clarifies that Rohit has himself opted out of the fifth Test. He says the move shows the unity within the team. India have brought in Shubman Gill for Rohit. Injured Akash Deep has been replaced by Prasidh Krishna.

We are all set to begin. The national anthems are done. Big match for both the sides. India desperately need a win. It will help them stay alive in the World Test Championship and also ensure they will retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. For Australia, it is about finally beating India in a series after a decade. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal are opening the innings for India. Mitchell Starc will begin the proceedings with the new ball for Australia.

An important toss to win for India. They get to use the best batting conditions in this game and also there bowlers get that much needed rest. India should really look to bat long now.

KL Rahul is gone. India lose their first wicket. Starc with the wicket. It was ull and on the pads. Not a threatening delivery at all. But Rahul is a little early with his shot and he chips it to the square leg fielder who pouches the ball with ease. Rahul gets just 4. Another series for him where his returns have faded after initial success.

Jaiswal departs. Boland comes into the attack and takes just four balls to find the breakthrough. Length ball, seaming away and Jaiswal has no option but to play. An edge and caught at third slip. Jaiswal walk back for 10.

Kohli has been given a life on the very first ball. Boland bowls a length delivery outside off stump and Kohli pushes at it. The ball finds an edge and Smith takes a dipping catch. Third umpire thinks it is touching the ground. Thus Kohli gets a reprieve.

Australia review for LBW. Yet again Boland with his impeccable accuracy makes things tough for Indian batters. Gill walks down the pitch to cut the movement but gets hit on the pad. Loud appeal by the Australians but the umpire is not moved. So, Australia use a review.

It is missing the stumps. Aussies have lost a review then. There was also an appeal for catch but there is no edge on it.

Finally the second boundary of the day. The first one came on the third ball of the game and it has taken almost 14 overs for the Indian batters to hit another. And this too is through an edge. Tells the amount of pressure Australian bowlers have created early on in the innings. Full and outside off, Gill goes for a drive but gets a thick inside edge and the ball runs towards the fine leg fence for four.

Debutant Beau Webster, right arm medium pacer, bowls a no ball to begin his Test career but he manages to finish his first over well. Just that one run off the no ball from the over and a little appeal as well. Good start from Webster.

Again not in total control but Gill will get four runs. Starc comes round the wicket and bowls it short with some width on over. Gill goes hard with the cut only to get an edge. The ball flies over the slip cordon to the third man fence for a boundary.

Nathan Lyon gets the ball. Fifth bowler for Australia today in just the 23rd over. Is the bowling showing signs of fatigue? Remember they bowled last in the fourth Test which finished just four days ago and Cummins and Starc have played all four games in the series so far.

Shubman Gill has been dismissed. Lyon comes up with the wicket. The last ball before the Lunch break brings a wicket. Australia will be absolutely elated with that. India and Gill should be heavily disappointed. Giill comes down the track to take on Lyon but gets an edge to slips where Smith takes a catch. A 40-run partnership ends and Gill departs for 20.

With the wicket of Gill, the first session also comes to an end. Kohli is batting there for India after an early reprieve. Gill has joined Rahul and Jaiswal in the pavillion and India are under pressure yet again.

Rishabh Pant is the new man in. India once again would want Pant to take them out of trouble. However, this tour has not been a good one for him. Will he finally hit a big one today? Let us see.

Finally a boundary where the batter looked in control. The first authoritative boundary since the first over. Cummins strays on pads and Pant flicks it beautifully for a boundary on the led side.

He would not get a boundary for it but that will definitely add to his confidence. Once again he has got his eyes in. It is now an opportunity he can not waste.

That is it for Kohli in this innings. India lose their fourth wicket. Australia on top. It is a gloomy morning in Sydney and for Indian fans, it has just gone darker and darker. Boland continues with the probing and finally forces Kohli to push outside off. Kohli gets an edge and Webster at the third slip takes a good diving catch. Kohli goes for 17(69).

Jadeja has been dropped by Smith. A moment of relief for India. Boland yet again with an outside off delivery seaming away from left hander. Jadeja goes for a push and edges it to slip with Smith puts the ball down.

Australia have totally dominated so far. A relentless bowling performance. No chances given by the bowlers. India yet again look towards the lower order to take them out of trouble. Four consecutive maiden overs now.

You can spend a lot of time on the pitch and yet could not set yourself up for what could happen next ball. But credit to Australia for being relentless with their discipline. Jadeja and Pant trying to weather the storm. They have added nine runs in 51 balls so far.

India going slow but steady. Jadeja and Pant have now batted together 81 balls. Just 16 runs to show but they have managed to ensure that the fifth wicket has not fallen.

India are slowly getting a move on here. A crucial partnership between Pant and jadeja. A six off Webster by Pant in the last over and now a four for Jadeja.

First ball and Reddy has edged it to the slips. Boland gets two in two. A big error of judgement from Reddy. He wants to play the ball but at the end decides to leave. But by that time it to late. An edge and Smith takes the catch.

The pitch is consistently giving pacers movement and Indian batters have no answers. Jadeja, Pant and now Sundar are trying to be patient but the conditions are not easing out at all. Sundar currently on a Duck, Jadeja on 17.

This is what Starc does. He bowled short annd wide to concede a boundary and then came back on the very next ball to bowl a stunning ball. This was full and on the stumps. Jadeja misses and the ball strikes on his front pad. That is plumb.

Sundar gets hit just below the belt and he needs the physio. Cummins into the attack and bowls this on a length and the ball comes in a little. Sundar is beaten on the inside edge and gets a painful blow.

Sundar cuts and finds the gap. A little wide from Cummins and Sundar waits and brings the bat down on time to find the gap between third slip and gully to get his third four of the innings.

An appeal for caught behind and the on-field umpire says not out. Australia go upstairs. It is similar to the Jaiswal dismissal in the last game. Down the leg, batter goes to pull. Third umpire takes his time and concludes it is out. However, the front on angle showed some gap between bat and ball. Side angle though helped Joel Wilson decide that the ball had brushed past the gloves. Cummins get his first wicket and Australia get their eighth.

Bumrah has smashed the best bowler of the day straight down the ground for a four. Boland goes full and Bumrah lofts it straight for four.

Again Bumrah goes straight. This time all along the ground. Another boundary. Vital runs.

The last ball of teh over also runs away for a boundary. Four of byes. It kept moving in and the wicketkeeper Alex Carey too did not have much chance with that.

Another one down and Starc gets his third wicket. Krishna swung hard and got only a leading edge. Konstas takes a good catch and India are one wicket away from getting bowled out.

Just 15 minutes for the day to end and Konstas jumps out of his crease on the very first ball of the innings and lofts Bumrah to the mid-wicket boundary for a four. What a start. First ball boundary.

Usman Khawaja has been dismissed on the last ball of the day. It is yet again Bumrah who brings the wicket. Full Bumrah and Khawaja edges it to Rahul in slips.

With that ball, the day ends. Australia have lost their first wicket and they trail by 176 runs. Konstas batting on seven and he will continue tomorrow.

It was another thrilling day of cricket. India came into the game with Jasprit Bumrah as captain as Rohit Sharma opted to sit out due to poor form. They were bowled out for 185 after choosing to bat first. Pant got 40 and Boland picked four wickets. Conditions never really eased for batting and Australia too in just three overs lost Usman Khawaja. Things are setting up nicely for the second day. India would need wickets, Australia partnerships.
