Kusal Mendis starred with the bat with his brilliant 74, while Pathum Nissanka chipped in with 28, and Janith Liyanage with 22. 

Michael Bracewell picked up four-wickets, giving away just 36 runs in his ten overs, while Mitchell Santner, Glenn Phillips, and Nathan Smith chipped in with a wicket apiece. 

Earlier on, Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka won the toss and elected to bowl first against New Zealand in the second ODI in Pallekele on Sunday.

Jeffray Vandersay and Ashita Fernando were headlined with the ball for Sri Lanka, picking up three wickets and two, respectively.

For New Zealand, Mark Chapman top-scored with 74, while wicketkeeper-batter Mitchell Hay scored 49.
