We are underway at the Salt lake Stadium. The hosts put some early pressure on the Machans, earning a free kick and forcing a save from Chennaiyin goalie Mohammad Nawaz. Assisted by Dimitrios Diamantakos in the second minute, Vishnu Puthiya is on target from his right foot from outside the box, and is saved in the centre of the goal.

The Machans go ahead! Connor Shields' back-heel takes a touch off Nishu Kumar and finds the net to leave East Bengal rattled early in the game.

Well, well, well. Chennaiyin have another goal in the 21st minute. This time, Irfan Yadwad's cross finds Wilmar Jordan in close range to drive it in, and he does the needful to double the Machans' lead. The Kolkata crowd is stunned into silence.

Pachuau Laldinpuia is booked for what looked like an innocuous challenge in the vicinity of the Chennaiyin box. He will miss the Machans' next match. The resulting free kick, meanwhile, is taken by Saul Crespo and flies well above the East Bengal goalpost.

The half-time whistle is blown, and we go into the mid-game interval with Owen Coyle's men leading by two goals to nil. Chennaiyin have never lost an ISL game when they have been up by two goals at half-time, and they will look to maintain that when play resumes. East Bengal in desperate need of a turnaround in the second half, on the other hand.

We are back for the second half. Chennaiyin, in whites, attacking now from left to right while the Red and Gold Brigade surging from right to left. East Bengal need an early goal to turn this around, one would reckon.

Both sides have made a few substitutions. Chennaiyin have brought in Farukh Choudhary for Lukas Brambilla, Ryan Edwards for Pachuau Laldinpuia and Jitendra Singh for Jiteshwor Singh. East Bengal induct Raphael Messi Bouli for Saul Crespo and Nandhakumar Sekar for Mohammad Rakip.

A victory looks well nigh impossible for East Bengal from here on, though stranger things have happened in football and the Indian Super League. Even salvaging a draw from here would take some doing, as it would mean sneaking two goals past the Chennaiyin defence in about 10 minutes (including injury time).

An irate Chungnunga is ejected after his foul draws a yellow card, and some words from him post that a second one. East Bengal are down to 10 men in the dying moments of the match, clearly deflated at this point.

Chima Chukwu adds the icing on the cake for Chennaiyin, slotting home easily from close range to beat EBFC custodian Prabsukhan Gill and make it 3-0, moments before the final whistle. The Marina Machans notch up a comprehensive away win, while East Bengal are now virtually out of playoffs reckoning.
