Odisha FC 4-2 Bengaluru FC Highlights, ISL 2024-25: OFC Climb To Third With Dominant Home Win

Like the previous game against Mohammedan Sporting, Sunil Chhetri is not starting tonight as well and is in the subs list. Odisha FC and Bengaluru FC have locked horns 10 times in the Indian Super League. The Blues hold the upper hand with five wins, while the Juggernauts have claimed three victories and two matches have ended in draws.

The fun begins at Kalinga Stadium, as the pink jersey-ed Bengaluru attack from left to right and hosts Odisha, in purple, from right to left. A reminder that OFC are in sixth place with 12 points, while BFC are perched on the top with 20.

The Juggernauts are on fire. After Jerry M, it is now Mourtada Fall's turn to figure on the scoresheet in the first half hour. The defender perfectly directs his header to Ahmed Jahouh's inch-perfect corner kick, and BFC custodian Gurpreet can only watch in horror as his goal is breached for the second time in 16 minutes.

OFC have a third in the first half! Diego Mauricio sends in a delightful curling right-footer past Gurpreet to compound Bengaluru's miseries, going into half-time. The strike comes into the third minute of added time in the first half and ensures that the hosts have left BFC a mountain to climb in the remainder of this clash. We are back live for the second half, and Odisha have made four changes, including bringing in the talismanic Sunil Chhetri, in a bid to come back after the unsettling first half. Chhetri is in the thick of it straight away as OFC goalie and skipper Amrinder parries a header past the former India captain.

And he scores now! Chhetri gets one more shot at a header, and the Indian football legend needs no second invitation as he dives forward to connect the header beautifully past Amrinder. BFC get their first goal in to reduce the deficit to two. Can they find two more goals and force a draw? One point will keep Bengaluru on top, while a win for Odisha will bring them to third and BFC to second.

It's all happening at the Kalinga Stadium. Diego Mauricio scores again to offset Chhetri's strike a few minutes ago. The Odisha FC forward makes the most of an empty Bengaluru goal to drill the ball in from his right foot to the top centre, and it's 4-1 now in favour of the home team.

The second and final drinks break of the game is done and dusted, and fewer than 10 minutes of regulation time remain in the encounter. With Odisha still leading by three goals, it would take nothing short of a miracle from here for Bengaluru to force a draw, let alone a win.

It might be too little, too late, but Spanish winger Edgar Mendez sends a powerful header past Amrinder to cut down the goal deficit to two, with three minutes left in regulation time. Roshan Singh's left-footed cross is precise and Mendez charges ahead to connect adroitly and lend some cheer to what has largely been a dismal evening for BFC. Meanwhile, six minutes of injury time have been added.

And that's that. The full-time whistle is sounded and the final scoreline reads 4-2 in Odisha's favour. The win never really looked in doubt after the two early goals, and three points at home mean OFC are now third in the ISL 2024-25 standings with 15 points. Bengaluru, meanwhile, slip to second spot after the disappointing defeat.

Bengaluru will next host Kerala Blasters on Saturday (December 7) at Sree Kanteerava Stadium, while Odisha will welcome Mumbai City at Kalinga Stadium on Thursday.
