Thompson produced a tie-breaking jumper with 1.3 seconds left to guide the Rockets to a hard-fought win, the 21-year-old finishing the night with a career-high 33 points.
"That was my first game-winner," said Thompson after the game. "I feel like Kobe!"
Thompson had pulled the Rockets ahead at 112-110 with an easy dunk before Jayson Tatum tied the game again with 5.3 seconds left on the clock.
The Houston forward then took an in-bounds pass just outside the 3-point line and drove the lane before hitting the winner over Jaylen Brown to cap off a memorable night.
Dillon Brooks also bagged a season-high 36 points to help Houston to victory, making 10 of his 15 shots from 3-point range.
