Football Manager had released a new edition every year since 2004 but that streak has now been broken with the makers officially scrapping the 2025 version of the game. Sports Interactive had scheduled the release of the game for November 2024 before delaying it to March 2025.
In a blog post, the makers apologised for their decision to not move ahead with the 2025 edition of the long-running video game.
"We know this will come as a huge disappointment, especially given that the release date has already moved twice, and you have been eagerly anticipating the first gameplay reveal. We can only apologise for the time it has taken to communicate this decision. Due to stakeholder compliance, including legal and financial regulations, today was the earliest date that we could issue this statement," Sports Interactive stated.
Football Manager 25 was cancelled because, as per the developers, the game would not have been ready on time. Also, if they pushed the release date further, it would complicate things for the next year's edition.
"Due to a variety of challenges that we've been open about to date, and many more unforeseen, we currently haven't achieved what we set out to do in enough areas of the game, despite the phenomenal efforts of our team... We were also unwilling to go beyond a March release as it would be too late in the football season to expect players to then buy another game later in the year."
At the same time, there would also be no update on the Football Manager 24 data. So, that comes as another disappointment for the fans.
However, since the makers are now focusing on the 2026 edition, fans would expect it is worth the wait.
