Ahead of Super Bowl LIX, United States' Illinois on Thursday permanently banned betting on player conduct, negative outcomes, and other pre-determined bets in the National Football League (NFL). (More Sports News)
The ban covers the following types of wagers:
Those related to player injuries
Player misconduct
The type of play (e.g., run or pass) executed to begin the game
A player missing a field goal or extra point
The first pass of a quarterback being incomplete
Officiating assignments
Fan safety
Other wagers that can “hurt consumers, players, and game integrity”
Illinois Gaming Board Administrator Marcus Fruchter had enacted the ban in October 2024 and now it has been made permanent. The state is the is the second-largest sporting betting marketplace in the United States. From September to November 2024, a total of about $1.3 billion was bet on football.
The ban largely covers the request of NFL that were made last year. The league was satisfied by the decision of Illinois Gaming Board.
“We very much appreciate the collaboration as we’ve worked through this process and the efforts of the board to take into account our perspective on game integrity,” Jonathan Nabavi, vice president, Public Policy and Government Affairs for the NFL, said. “I think we’ve landed at a good place. … We noted the questions about making sure this was not meant to be over-broad.”
Illinois Gaming Board Chairman Charles Schmadeke said the decision helps in maintaining the integrity of sports gaming.
“I think it라이브 바카라 important for the NFL to maintain the integrity of its sports; it라이브 바카라 obviously important for this board to maintain the integrity of sports gaming.
“I think this proposal accomplishes the goals of both organizations, and I thank the NFL for its efforts and appreciate it very much.”
Superbowl LIX takes place on Sunday between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
