Delhi Assembly Elections 2025: As the Delhi elections 2025 continue, the Election Commission of India has recorded a voter turnout of 57.70 percent as of 5 PM. Around 1.5 crore voters are casting their ballots across 70 assembly constituencies on Wednesday. A high-octane three-way contest is expected between the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the BJP and Congress.

National capital Delhi is all set to witness the much-awaited and one of the most fiercely contested electoral battles in years with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Congress gearing up for the mega showdown across 70 assembly seats on February 5. The counting and results will be on February 8.
Over 1.56 crore voters are eligible to cast their ballots from 7 am onwards on Wednesday.
Voting will take place across 13,766 polling stations in all 70 Assembly constituencies to decide the fates of 699 candidates in a contest that could reshape the political landscape of the capital.
Led by Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP is seeking a third straight term, banking on its governance record and welfare schemes.
On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is making a determined push to reclaim the capital after more than 25 years.
The Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 years in a row till 2013, is striving to stage a comeback after failing to win a single seat in the previous two elections.
In a bid to maintain law and order, the Election Commission has deployed 220 companies of paramilitary forces, 35,626 Delhi Police personnel, and 19,000 home guards to ensure peaceful voting.
Nearly 3,000 polling booths have been identified as sensitive, and special security arrangements, including drone surveillance, have been made at some of these locations.
According to Delhi Police, additional police forces will be deployed for the sensitive booths where Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) will also be stationed to maintain law and order.
Mock polling is being conducted at a polling booth in Jafrabad. The voting will be conducted today for all 70 Assembly seats today. Special provisions have been made for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, with 733 polling stations designated for their accessibility.
In an effort to streamline the process, the Election Commission has introduced a Queue Management System (QMS) app, which will enable the voters to check crowd levels in real time.
While governance, law and order, and women's welfare were the focal points, freebies dominated the pre-poll promises made by different parties.
The AAP has pledged free bus rides for students, insurance for auto and taxi drivers, and monthly financial aid of rupees 18,000 for temple priests and gurdwara granthis.
The BJP, on the other hand, has promised financial assistance of rupees 21,000 for pregnant women and subsidised cooking gas cylinders at rupees 500.
The Congress has vowed to provide a monthly unemployment benefit of rupees 8,500.

With the Delhi Assembly elections set for this week, all three major political parties in the capital have intensified their efforts to clinch power. While the ruling Aam Admi Party (AAP) is fighting to maintain its hold on Delhi, the Congress is trying to reclaim the chair it had held until 2013.

The last time Delhi had a BJP government was in 1998 with Sahib Singh Verma as the Chief Minister. Verma held the office for two years and was later replaced by former EAM Sushma Swaraj.
The NDMC School, Tughlak Crescent which is a VVIP booth, is a theme based polling station that promotes sustainability and menstrual hygiene.
When asked about the theme, Sabina Sood, the location in-charge, said, "This polling station is theme oriented, the theme is sustainability. We want to provide an experience to votes. We have provided the facility of games, creche. We are providing awareness programme for menstrual hygiene. We are celebrating it as a festival."

Commenting on the EVMs being kept in the dark in certain booths, AAP candidate from Greater Kailash, Saurabh Bhardwaj said, "There is no provision to keep EVM machines at any polling booths in the dark. They just need to be protected from direct sunlight... I received a complaint from here (Chirag Delhi), so I came and checked. I found that lights were off in 5-6 rooms, leaving the machines in darkness. This should not happen."

Delhi is set to witness one of the most fiercely contested elections in years. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress are engaged in a razor sharp battle for the 70 assembly seats of the national capital. With an aim to capitalise on voter sentiments and shifting political winds, the three major contenders are coming up with distinct strategies and ambitious promises.
The three parties each have historically gone solo in spite of sharing overlapping voter bases. However, the Lok Sabha election of 2019 was a rare moment when the Congress and the AAP had joined hands and together secured a vote share of 43.1%.

President Droupadi Murmu, Union ministers S Jaishankar and Hardeep Singh Puri, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, were among the early voters as polling began for the Delhi Assembly elections on Wednesday.
Other prominent leaders who came out to cast their vote were Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, AAP leader and former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, and Delhi Chief Electoral Officer R Alice Vaz.
AAP's Greater Kailash candidate Saurabh Bharadwaj, BJP's Karawal Nagar candidate Kapil Mishra, Congress' New Delhi candidate Sandeep Dikshit, and Kalkaji candidate Alka Lamba also exercised their franchise soon after voting began at 7 am.
Speaking to the reporters after casting his vote, Congress leader Ajay Maken said, "I have voted, and I appeal all voters to come out in large numbers and vote. Brisk voting is underway. People of Delhi are recalling Congress days. There has only been blame game in the last 10 years in Delhi, no development has taken place."
Supreme Court Justice BR Gavai said after casting his vote at a polling booth, “Our Constitution recognises ‘one person, one vote, one value.’ Strengthening our democracy is every citizen라이브 바카라 duty, and everyone must fulfill their responsibility by casting their vote.”

After casting his vote, former President Ram Nath Kovind said, "It is a festival of democracy for all Delhi people. I appeal to all the voters to vote, voting is our constitutional duty, and moral responsibility. By voting, we can choose our favourite representative, government. Hence, it is my request to everyone to vote."
Highlighting the importance of voting considering the pressing electoral issues of Delhi, Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal said, "There are several issues is Delhi and this time the election is being fought over basic issues like roads, sewage system, water supply, pollution of Yamuna River. I have voted for development of Delhi. I would appeal everyone, especially the youth, to come out in large numbers and vote for Delhi's better future."
With voting under for the Delhi Assembly elections 2025, the turnout has been rather slow. As per ECI, the turnout stands at 33.31% as of 1 PM.

As reported by ANI, Delhi Police said - "At about 11:50 AM, at Aryan Public School, Jafrabad voting centre, BJP candidate from the Seelampur constituency levelled the allegations of bogus voting against AAP candidate. Acting upon the issue, both side party supporters started sloganeering. At once, police officers with additional staff reached the spot and sorted out the matter. The situation is completely under control. No complaint from any side has been received by the police so far."
For Kalkaji, Delhi CM and incumbent MLA Atishi is up against BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri, who has passed sexist remarks against the AAP leader, and Congress' Alka Lamba, who is seeking the grand-old party's return to power.
The voters of Kalkaji, despite not being completely satisfied with AAP's work, are rooting for Atishi's comeback.
On January 28th, Kasturba Nagar Constituency was all decked up to host Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his roadshow. For the first time in a long time, residents of the area saw clean roads, functional streetlights and heightened security.

With Delhi Assembly Elections underway, political parties have got their list of promises out to woo the voters. The city will be voting on February 5 with the vote counting happening on February 8. Competition for the 70 seats in the city is between three major parties - the Aam Aadmi Party, Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The parties are going all out on their campaigning and announcements of several welfare schemes. A trend that is seen in the context of elections in India is the promise of several welfare schemes by the political parties. A January 2024 report by Carnegie Endowment For International Peace, an international think tank, showed that since 2017, welfare schemes have reached nearly 950 million people across India and have accounted for $270 billion in government spending.

A unique polling station has been set up in Delhi's Vikaspuri with the theme 'Chandrayan se chunav tak Bharat ki udaan'. The station has telescopes and bioscopes installed at different points. There are also models of Chandrayaan and PSLV, made by the students of Rajdhani College, Shivaji College and Bharti College.
The volunteers at the polling station are dressed up as astronauts to assist voters.
In Kasturba Nagar, two men were reportedly caught trying to vote fraudulently at a polling station in the Andrews Ganj area. The police apprehended the suspects, who are currently under interrogation. Authorities also investigated a separate claim made by a woman who alleged that someone had cast a vote in her name. However, further verification revealed that a tenant in her house had cast the vote on her behalf, leading to both women being allowed to vote after clarification.
AAP candidate from Greater Kailash, Saurabh Bharadwaj, accused the police of deliberately blocking voters in Chirag Dilli by setting up barricades around the area. Bharadwaj shared a video on social media showing a woman stranded near a barricade, alleging that this was an attempt to obstruct access to polling stations.

At a polling booth in Delhi's Majnu Ka Tilla, Reshma pressed the button on an electronic voting machine on Wednesday with a sense of pride as a smile spread across her face.
Reshma is one of 186 Pakistani Hindu refugees who, after years of uncertainty, exercised their voting right for the first time in the Delhi Assembly polls, marking a powerful moment in their journey from statelessness to citizenship. They all got Indian citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
Voting for the 70-seats of the Delhi Assembly Elections ended at 6 PM. The exit poll for the elections are expected to come in by 6.30 PM.

While the 2013 Delhi assembly elections saw 65.60 percent voter turnout, the 2008 Delhi assembly elections saw 57.60 percent voter turnout.
