As the city of Delhi is embraced in the voting fervour, people of the city are practicing their right to vote for the Delhi Assembly elections 2025. As per reports, till 1 PM, the voter turnout stood at 33.31 per cent with the same expecting to see some rise.
The total voter turnout is an important element that gauges the citizens interest. Either of the two, i.e. a low or high voter turnout can form different meanings to the Delhi polls. But historically, how have the voters in the national capital voted in the assembly elections? Here is more information with some data.
Voter Turnout
Looking at the last four assembly polls in the city, historical data showed that the voter turnout has been increasing over the years, except the 2020 assembly elections which bucked the trend.
As per data from the Election Commission of India, the total voter turnout in 2020 Delhi assembly elections was 62.59 per cent. This was lower than the data recorded for the 2015 Delhi assembly elections when the number stood at 67.13 per cent. While the 2013 Delhi assembly elections saw 65.60 per cent voter turnout, the 2008 Delhi assembly elections saw 57.60 per cent voter turnout.
Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 Details
President Droupadi Murmu, Union ministers S Jaishankar and Hardeep Singh Puri, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, were among the early voters as polling began for the Delhi Assembly elections.
Other prominent leaders who came out to cast their vote were Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, AAP leader and former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, and Delhi Chief Electoral Officer R Alice Vaz.
AAP's Greater Kailash candidate Saurabh Bharadwaj, BJP's Karawal Nagar candidate Kapil Mishra, Congress' New Delhi candidate Sandeep Dikshit, and Kalkaji candidate Alka Lamba also exercised their franchise soon after voting began at 7 am.
Several political and other key leaders casted their vote. Congress MP Sonia Gandhi with mother Sonia Gandhi arrived to cast her vote at a polling booth set up at Atal Adarsh Vidyalaya (NDMC), Lodhi Estate.
Speaking to the reporters on the day of Delhi Assembly Elections, AAP MP Raghav Chadha said, “I appeal to the voters to come out of their homes and cast their vote for a better future, better education, health, and other facilities. Voters of Delhi are smart.”

The voting in the city is till 6 PM on February 5 and results will be out on February 8.
