US President Donald Trump has said that a trade agreement with India is likely, as discussions on tariffs between the two countries are “coming along great.”

Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Tuesday, Mr Trump said, “I think we’ll have a deal with India.”

The two countries are working towards securing “early mutual wins” as part of the first phase of a larger trade deal. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi라이브 바카라 recent visit, Mr Trump added, “The Prime Minister, as you know, was here three weeks ago, and they want to make a deal,” according to CNBC News. Mr Modi had visited the White House in late February.

His comments came a day after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the US was “very close on India,” suggesting that the talks are progressing well.

On 2 April, Mr Trump announced new reciprocal tariffs on several countries, including India and China. However, on 9 April, he put a 90-day hold on most of these tariffs—until 9 July—excluding those on China and Hong Kong. The move came after nearly 75 countries reached out to the US to discuss trade arrangements.

Still, the 10% base tariff introduced on 2 April remains in place, along with 25% duties on steel, aluminium, and auto components.

The trade discussions are seen as an important step in strengthening India–US economic ties.
