In Pacific Palisades, a hillside area renowned for celebrity residences, homes, and structures are burning as strong winds whip the flames across the region. The wildfires, which have caused significant destruction, are affecting the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles and Altadena, near Pasadena. As of now, around 30,000 residents have been evacuated, and over 13,000 structures are under threat.
Among the areas affected, the Getty Villa, located in the Pacific Palisades, suffered some damage to its grounds. However, staff and the museum라이브 바카라 collection remain safe. Other notable locations impacted include Palisades Charter High School.
Video footage from the Pacific Coast Highway showed widespread damage to homes and businesses.
Firefighters are battling the rapidly spreading flames, with the Los Angeles Fire Department issuing a rare call for off-duty personnel to assist. The fires, fanned by Santa Ana winds reaching speeds over 60 mph, have made firefighting efforts difficult. These winds, which are expected to intensify overnight, have also caused widespread power outages, with nearly 167,000 people without power across Los Angeles County.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency as the fires continue to spread. The flames have already reached Malibu, and several people are receiving treatment for burn injuries, including a firefighter who sustained a serious head injury. Newsom has warned that the worst of the winds is still expected to come, with gusts potentially exceeding 100 mph in some regions.
SAG Awards cancels nomination events
Devastating wildfires and fierce winds sweeping through the Los Angeles hillside have led to the cancellation of the in-person announcement for the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards nominations, originally scheduled for Wednesday morning.
The nominations for the prestigious awards, which recognize the best performances in movies and television, will now be revealed through a press release, instead of at the planned live event hosted by actors Joey King and Cooper Koch.
Along with the SAG Awards’ nomination event, several entertainment events have been canceled due to the wildfires. This includes the premieres of the Robbie Williams biopic Better Man, Jennifer Lopez's Unstoppable movie, and Universal Pictures' upcoming horror film Wolf Man.
The Pacific Palisades fire, which began early Tuesday, has already consumed 4.6 square miles and sent up a massive plume of smoke visible throughout Los Angeles. The fire has caused significant disruption, with residents of the area forced to flee on foot as traffic jams made evacuations nearly impossible.
