An army personnel was killed on Thursday in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur. The jawan, Hav Jhantu Ali Shaikh, was of 6 PARA SF.

Based on intelligence about the presence of terrorists, a joint operation with the state's Police was launched on Thursday in Basantgarh, Udhampur. Fierce firefight ensued as contact was established.

"His indomitable courage and the valour of his team will never be forgotten. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved family in this moment of grief," WhiteKnightCorps posted on X.

Shaikh sustained injuries on the spot and was later declared dead, according to White Knight Corps, Indian Army.

The firing occured in Dudu-Basantgarh region during a cordon and search operation.PTI reported.

The encounter took place two days after Tuesday's terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that killed at least 26 civilians.
