Pope Francis' funeral is to be held at St Peter's Square on Saturday at 10:00 am local time, the Vatican confirms.

The Vatican has published an 87-page booklet on its website containing details of the funeral in English, Italian, Latin and other languages.

The bells of Rome tolled on Monday morning as news spread of the death of Pope Francis at the age of 88, ending a transformative papacy that began in 2013.

When Will the Funeral Take Place?

Pope Francis' mass will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. local time at St Peter's Square in Vatican City.

According to reports, the date was announced by the Holy See press office on Tuesday following the Pope's death on Monday, April 21.

The funeral will be presided over by Cardinal Giovani Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, and concelebrated by patriarchs, cardinals, archbishops, bishops, and priests from around the world, the Vatican confirmed.

Where Will the Service Be Held?

The funeral Mass will be held outside St Peter's Square, the vast plaza in front of St Peter's Basilica.

On Wednesday, the Pope's body was transferred from Casa Marta, his Vatican residence, to St Peter's Basilica.

Tens of thousands of mourners have already filed past the Pope라이브 바카라 coffin, which rests in a simple wooden casket, in keeping with his wishes for a modest burial.

Who Will Attend the Funeral?

World leaders from around the world are set to attend Pope Francis' funeral in St Peter's Square on Saturday. Many heads of state, royalty and top officials will attend the ceremony in Vatican City.

Representing India at the ceremony, President Draupadi Murmu will visit Vatican City to attend the state funeral and pay her homage.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Prince William will attend the funeral and pay their respects.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will also be present at the ceremony. The South American nation has the largest Catholic population, and seven days of mourning were also declared following the pope's death.

US President Donald Trump will make his first foreign visit since the start of his second term by attending the funeral.

What's next?

After the funeral and burial, the College of Cardinals will begin the process of preparing for the papal conclave, which is expected to be held between May 6 and May 12 to elect Francis' successor.
