Delhi Police filed a FIR on newly elected Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan after his supporters forcibly freed an attempted murder accused from police custody. As per reports, the incident occurred when the Crime Branch, led by Inspector Sunil Kalkhande, went to Jamia Nagar to arrest Shabaz Khan, wanted in an attempt to murder case. Khan's supporters allegedly attacked the police team, aiding the accused's escape.
Reports also suggested that Khan was present at the scene, where police action was obstructed, allowing the accused to evade arrest. An FIR has been filed against the MLA for the attack on the Crime Branch team and the escape of the accused.
A Delhi Police team went to Khan's residence in Okhla to arrest him but found he was not home. After verifying his absence, the team left, and the search for the MLA continued.
In the Delhi Assembly elections, Khan won the Okhla seat by a margin of more than 23,000 votes. He defeated BJP's Manish Chaudhary.
