Former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash Allegedly Murdered, Wife Detained

Former Director General of Police (DGP), Om Prakash, was found dead with multiple stab wounds, at his home in Bengaluru on Sunday. As per the Indian Express, the former DGP's wife Pallavi, was detained for questioning.

The former DGP had a fight with his wife in the afternoon, where she threw chilli powder at him, tied him up and then stabbed him to death, according to NDTV.

After the murder, the wife allegedly called the wife of another cop and confessed to the crime. The woman she called told her husband, who informed the police.

Om Prakash was an Indian Police Officer, and was appointed as the Director General of Police in March 2015.

"Former DGP Om Prakash has been murdered. It is said that his wife has murdered him. Only a detailed investigation will bring out the truth," Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara told reporters.

Om Prakash and his wife allegedly fought over the the former DGP transferring property to a relative. The disagreement turned physical and the wife is suspected of stabbing her husband.

The police have detained Pallavi and her daughter. Their suspected roles in the murder are being investigated. A case has been registered on the basis of a complaint by Om Prakash's son.

Kartikeya, the son, suspects his mother and sister, who were suffering from depression to have committed the crime. As per reports from NDTV, Kartikeya said his mother had been threatening to kill Om Prakash over the past week.

"I rushed home around 5:45 pm and found police officers and members of the public present at the scene. My father was lying in a pool of blood with injuries to his head and body. A broken bottle and a knife were found next to his body." said Kartikeya. The former DGP was then taken to St. John's Hospital.
