The Supreme Court of India has agreed to hear the plea regarding BJP MP Nishikant Dubey's criticism of the top court and Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna.

The matter was listed for urgent hearing after the remarks were made before a bench of Justices BR Gavai and Augustine George Masih.

As per a PTI report, the counsel told the bench about Dubey's statement and how the BJP MP accused the CJI for causing "civil wars" in the country.

"This is a very serious issue," the counsel said.

"What (do) you want to file? You want to file a contempt petition?" Justice Gavai asked.

The counsel added that the case has been presented before the court to take down the viral videos on social media against the apex court. The bench stated that the matter will be heard next week.

What Did Nishikant Dubey Say?

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey slammed the top court for its criticisms towards the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025. The MP"s remarks came after the SC raised concerns regarding certain provisions and the Centre reassured the top court that those provisions will not be implemented.

Expressing his outrage, Dubey said - "Supreme Court is responsible for inciting religious wars in the country. The Supreme Court is going beyond its limits. If one has to go to the Supreme Court for everything, then Parliament and State Assembly should be shut" ANI quoted Dubey as saying.

The MP's remarks were rejected by the BJP, which distanced itself from the controversial statements.
