The ‘Mini Brazil’ of India has been a hot topic on social media ever since the football craze of the little-known district of Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh was discussed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a recent interview. (More Football News)
In a podcast with American tech and political commentator Lex Fridman, Modi narrated the story of a small tribal village in Shahdol and its impact on Indian football – from developing national-level players to spreading the game in the country.
“There's a state in India called Madhya Pradesh, right in the centre,” Modi told Fridman. “There's a district called Shahdol, a completely tribal region where a large tribal community resides.”
The tribal village that Modi was referring to in the podcast with Fridman is the Bicharpur village in Shahdol, which lies about 500 km from the capital city of Bhopal.
The Prime Minister narrated that in his visit to the Shahdol district to meet with female self-help group experts, he met with “80 to 100 young boys, kids and even some older youth all dressed in sports uniforms standing together.”
“Naturally, I walked over to them. So I asked them, ‘Where are you all from?’ And they replied, ‘We’re from ‘Mini Brazil’.’”, Modi said.
Why Is Shahdol Called India라이브 바카라 ‘Mini Brazil’?
Modi explained the fascinating reason behind the unique name bestowed upon the Bicharpur village in Shahdol. He said that in ‘Mini Brazil’, “football has been played for four generations. Nearly 80 national-level players have come from here.”
Furthermore, around 20 to 25 thousand people attend their annual football games, Modi revealed.
The most famous example of Bicharpur라이브 바카라 football acumen is the son of coach/scout Suresh Kunde, Neelendra, who received an Indian national team camp call-up, as per a report in India Today.
This is not the first time that Modi has reiterated the story of ‘Mini Brazil’, mentioning it in a program in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ in 2023.
