The draw meant Paris FC will now remain in the top two of the second division and will play in Ligue 1 for the 2025-26 season. They are currently second on the table in Ligue 2 behind Lorient who too have earned a ticket to the top division.
Paris FC's entry to Ligue 1 will make it first time in 35 years that two clubs from the French capital will compete in the top flight in the same season. PSG are the titans of French football while Racing Paris 1 (formerly Matra Racing) were relegated in 1990 making it the last time that two clubs from the French capital were together in Ligue 1.
Paris FC was two points behind league leader Lorient and could top the table when it plays its last game of the season next Saturday against Ajaccio.
The club was recently acquired by the family of French billionaire Bernard Arnault. The new owners had vowed that they aimed to lift the club to be among the elite of French and European football.
Paris FC had also announced earlier this year the they are moving into the Stade Jean-Bouin, situated almost literally on the doorstep of the Parc des Princes which is the home ground for the Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
