Even as the La Liga 2024-25 action heats up on the field, the on-screen manifestation of the Spanish league, i.e. the La Liga FC Pro, too is gathering steam in Barcelona. (More Sports News)
The esports tournament has 38 clubs in competition from La Liga EA Sports and La Liga Hypermotion, vying for a prize pool of 357,000 euros. The competing clubs are split into eight groups, facing off in a one-versus-one format through the season to seal their berths in the Cup and the final. Two rounds are played for each group, expanding the number of matches in the regular season phase this year.
The latest stage of the tournament was held recently in Barcelona and broadcast across 16 platforms, including linear (DAZN TV), dedicated La Liga club and EA channels, and TikTok, Twitch as well as YouTube.
The event will end in April 2025 with the finals in San Sebastian and a city yet to be unveiled, combining competitive matches and several activities that are open to the public.
While many esports tournaments are conducted remotely, La Liga FC Pro is organized fully in-person. “No players are online,” an SVG Europe report quoted Carles Negreiro Potrony, senior project manager at production company LVP, as saying. Negreiro added that the only exceptions were during the pandemic, when remote play – and remote production – was necessary.
