U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled his first budget proposal on Friday - taking away funding from education, foreign aid, health and public assistance programs while boosting defense and homeland security.

According to media reports, the administration will increase the homeland security budget by almost 65% from 2025 enacted levels. The proposal slashed funding of departments that the Trump government has been dismantling since his second term started in January.

$163 billion from non-defense was reduced, discretionary spending ( which must be received on an annual basis) saw a 23% reduction, CNN reported. The Department of Education bore a 15.3 % cut.

Discretionary spending changes excluded social security, medicare and interest payments, and has reached its lowest since 2017, the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) said in a statement.

The proposal - which is in line with Trump라이브 바카라 attempts to pump up security - is more of a suggestion to Congress for the upcoming 2026 fiscal year. However, the congressmen are not mandated to follow it.

The blueprint pumps up spending in the defense and immigration control departments, proposing to increase defense spending by 13% to $1 trillion. Furthermore, a “historic” $175 billion funding will be dedicated to “fully secure the border,” CNN reported.

"At this critical moment, we need a historic budget - one that ends the funding of our decline, puts Americans first, and delivers unprecedented support to our military and homeland security," Economic Times quoted OMB Director Russ Vought.

The budget proposal saw criticism from opposition lawmakers since Democrats have been against a hike in defence spending.

Other departments facing loss include the National Park Service, climate science research, foreign economic and disaster assistance, UN peacekeepers, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, NASA, the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and rental assistance. The Internal Revenue Service would also see nearly $2.5 billion cut.

Trump is also looking to bring back the 2017 tax cuts implemented during his first term which could add up to $5 trillion to the nation's already existing $36 trillion debt pile.
