Lotus To Bloom Across Delhi?

Delhi went to vote on February 5 with the voter turnout of 60.54 percent, the lowest it has recorded in 15 years. While certain exit polls predicted a sweep for BJP, a close contest between Arvind Kejriwal-led party and BJP was expected.

However, with the early trends in, BJP is likely to replicate its Lok Sabha 2024 sweep and secure a majority.

If the BJP proceeds to secure its leads, it will break its 27-year-long jinx and form the next government in the new capital. The last time BJP was in power was in 1998 under former external minister Sushma Swaraj.

Following Sushma Swaraj, Congress' Sheila Dikshit won the assembly elections, paving the pay for 15 years of Congres rule, which was broken in 2013 with the coming of Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party.

Despite not winning the 2013 elections, Arvind Kejriwal became the chief minister after AAP and Congress joined hands and formed a coalition. The result in 2013 was a hung assembly, with BJP being the largest party.

Since 2013, the Aam Aadmi Party has been in power with Arvind Kejriwal as the Chief Minister.
