Nathan Fillion is a Canadian-American actor who has gained recognition for his roles in television, film, and video games. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to two retired English teachers, he developed an early interest in acting. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic High School, Concordia University College of Alberta, and the University of Alberta, where he majored in art and minored in drama. He was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Society. Before moving to New York City to pursue acting, he was involved in improv theatre, including Theatresports with Rapid Fire Theatre.
Fillion's career began with a role in the TV movie Ordeal in the Arctic (1993) and then transitioned to New York City in 1994. His first regular role was as Joey Buchanan in the soap opera One Life to Live. This role earned him a Daytime Emmy nomination in 1996.
