A 70-year-old man was killed, and four others were injured after a stabbing attack in Israel's Haifa. As per reports, the attack took place at a bus station on Monday. Israeli police have further stated that the suspected assailant has been killed.
"Paramedics and EMTs have pronounced the death of a man around 70 years old and are providing medical treatment to and evacuating four injured individuals,” Israel라이브 바카라 Magen David Adom emergency service said.
The injured have been identified as man and a woman, both aged about 30 years, and a 15-year-old boy.
The identity of the attacker remains unknown but Israeli police have stated that the person is dead.
As reported by AFP, the agency's journalists saw the attacker's body on the ground covered under a blanket.
Israeli police have labeled the incident as a "terrorist attack" connected to the larger Israel-Palestine conflict.
Meanwhile, Palestinian militant group Hamas allegedly praised the attack. As reported by AP and other media organisations, Hamas issued a press statement praising the attack in Haifa and calling it a "natural reaction" to the ongoing Israeli occupation.
The statement also added that the attack "symbolises Palestinian resistance."
The attack comes amid negotiations between Israel and Hamas for the next phase of the ceasefire. The first phase ended on March 2, immediately after which Israel decided to stop entry of all aid into the Gaza Strip.
