Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant faced another penalty during the IPL 2025 match against Mumbai Indians on Sunday. Pant has been fined INR 24 lakhs because LSG failed to maintain the required over-rate during Match 45, held at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. (Highlights | Full Coverage | Schedule | Points Table)
This marks the second instance this season where Pant's team has committed a slow over-rate offence under Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct.
Consequently, the penalty for the captain was elevated to INR 24 lakhs, as confirmed by an official BCCI statement. The rest of the Lucknow playing XI, which included David Miller as the Impact Player for the match, also faced sanctions. Each player will be fined either INR 6 lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fee, whichever amount is less.
The fine compounded a disappointing outing for LSG, who lost the contest to Mumbai Indians by a considerable margin of 54 runs. Chasing a target of 216 set by MI, LSG were bowled out for just 161. Mumbai pacer Jasprit Bumrah delivered a standout performance, taking four wickets. Ayush Badoni was the top scorer for LSG with 35 runs.
Captain Rishabh Pant's struggles with the bat also persisted in this match. He contributed only four runs before being dismissed while attempting a reverse sweep off spinner Will Jacks, resulting in a simple catch for Karn Sharma at short third man.
Mumbai Indians have climbed to the second place after this win. LSG, on the other hand, are in sixth place with five wins in 10 matches.
MI will go to Jaipur to play Rajasthan Royals on Thursday, 1 May 2025, whereas LSG will go to Himachal Pradesh's Dharamsala to play Punjab Kings on Sunday, 4 May.
