United States President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he is in “no rush” to negotiate on the trade deals since the tariffs have given the U.S. an upper hand. The statement came after he met with the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni - adding that it is comparatively easier to reach a trade deal with the European Union (EU).
The two leaders met at the White House in Washington, D.C on Thursday, and discussed the larger trade deals, geopolitical relations and Italy-U.S. trade. Trump also accepted Meloni's invitation for an official visit to Rome in the near future, and said he will consider meeting representatives of the EU while there, Reuters reported.
The Trump administration has gone on a tariff rampage since January, saying that various countries have been manipulating the U.S. under Former President Joe Biden. He said the EU was “set up to take advantage of the United States," and that China was "number-one abuser" of the U.S.
“We’re in no rush,” AP quoted Trump saying, as he hinted that the world needs the U.S. consumer market.
“We were losing a lot of money under Biden,” Trump said, adding that the whole tide has now turned.
Stock markets across the world have been affected ever since Trump imposed unprecedented tariffs across continents, while interest on loans have increased in the U.S. and market experts have warned of price increases and job losses across countries.
However, Trump is confident that tariffs will bring the U.S. wealth as according to this, “there really is no elsewhere,” except for the U.S. consumer market, making America라이브 바카라 case stronger.
A sell-off in the bond market prompted Trump to ease his tariff war, tentatively reducing planned 20% import duties on the EU to a 10% baseline for a 90-day period.
What Did Meloni-Trump Meeting Entail?
Italian Prime Minister Meloni shares a cordial relationship with Donald Trump, rooted in their aligned far-right political ideologies; she was chosen to represent the EU라이브 바카라 case with Trump for tariff negotiations as recession fears loom. The U.S. however said that the EU does not do enough for national security.
Depending on the importance of the EU and the U.S. in the western civilization as “natural allies”, Meloni said, “the goal for me is to make the West great again.”
Furthermore, the EU has called their relationship with the U.S. “the most important commercial relationship in the world,’’ with annual trade with the U.S. totaling 1.6 trillion euros.
Even though she was the only EU leader to attend Trump라이브 바카라 January 20 inauguration, earlier this month she denounced tariffs as “wrong”. “Dividing the West would be disastrous for everyone,” Meloni said.
The two leaders also discussed Italy's spending on their defence, which last year fell to less than 2% of gross domestic product target for countries in the NATO military alliance.
