Los Angeles Wildfires: Fires In Palisades, Eaton, Hurst & Sunset Continue To Rage; Hollywood Celebs Lose Homes

At least five people have been killed due to the wildfires in Los Angeles. As per reports, the death toll is expected to increase as the blaze continues to spread across the California state.

Furthermore, over 100,000 residents are under evacuation orders due to the of the wildfires burning across LA County. Red flag warnings remain in effect.

As the fires continue to blaze, a sixth fire from Hollywood hills has been reported. Along with Hollywood hills, fires continue to blaze Palisades, Eaton, Hurst, Lidia and Sunset.

CNN reports that none of the fires have been contained.

The National Weather Service has warned powerful winds spreading the fires are not expected to die down until Friday evening.

"If fire ignition occurs, conditions are favourable for very rapid fire spread and extreme fire behaviour, including long range spotting, which would threaten life and property," the service said in a statement.

"There will be a high risk for widespread downed trees and powerlines, as well as widespread power outages," NWS added further.

Wildfires burning in and around Los Angeles have burned down the homes of several celebrities such as Billy Crystal, Mandy Moore and Paris Hilton.

Billy Crystal and his wife, Janice, released a statement Wednesday saying their home of 45 years in the Pacific Palisades neighbourhood was lost.

"Janice and I lived in our home since 1979. We raised our children and grandchildren here. Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can't be taken away. We are heartbroken of course but with the love of our children and friends we will get through this,” the Crystals wrote in the statement.

Mandy Moore lost her home in the Altadena neighbourhood near Pasadena.

“Honestly, I'm in shock and feeling numb for all so many have lost, including my family. My children's school is gone. Our favourite restaurants, levelled. So many friends and loved ones have lost everything too,” the actor-singer wrote on Instagram.

Paris Hilton also shared that she lost her home in the fire. This home was where we built so many precious memories. It's where Phoenix took his first steps and where we dreamed of building a lifetime of memories with London," she said, referencing her young children.

“The devastation is unimaginable. To know so many are waking up today without the place they called home is truly heartbreaking,” she added.

Outgoing president Joe Biden has cancelled the final overseas trip of his presidency hours. The Democratic leader was set to fly to Rome and the Vatican. During this visit, the US president was set to meet with Pope Francis, Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Biden now will monitor the response to fires in California, where a state of emergency has been declared due to the blazing fires.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to X and shared that Canada will be sharing its resources with California has it fights the most devastating fires in LA history.

"Canadians are thinking of everyone in California affected by these wildfires, including the lives tragically lost. As wildfires rage on in LA, the City of Pasadena has issued an urgent alert concerning unsafe drinking water in areas impacted by recent evacuations

As per an official statement from the city, due to the Eaton Fire, the Pasadena Water and Power system may be compromised by “debris and elevated turbidity,” prompting officials to advise residents against consuming tap water.

Over 2,000 homes, businesses and other buildings have been damaged or destroyed due to the wildfires across Los Angeles. As the fires continue to rage and no containment, this has been recorded as one of the most destructive firestorms to hit the region in history.

Quoting UCLA epidemiology professor Anne Rimoin, CNN reported that experts are fearing potential health hazards as the wildfires are spreading particulate matters which can have detrimental effects on health.

“This fine particulate matter can go long distances,” she said, and “penetrate deep into the lungs and become a real problem”, Rimoin told CNN while adding, “It can even enter the bloodstream.”

As fire activity has mostly been contained in Hollywood, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) announced that most of the evacuation orders for the affected areas have been lifted.

However, restrictions are still valid for a small section of the community in the north of Franklin Avenue and the area will remain closed until Thursday morning.

Speaking with CNN, Ariel Cohen, the Meteorologist in Charge of the National Weather Service Los Angeles told, the windspeed across the region has weakened to 30-50 mph throughout Los Angeles.

However, the red flag warnings are still in place across the area anticpating potential fire development.

“Just because we’re not seeing the same strength of winds as we saw last night, I urge everyone to remain at a high state of vigilance, as we still have these fires growing and we still have the winds to create the rapid spread,” Cohen said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department has announced that majority of the of the evacuation zone for areas impacted by the Sunset Fire in Hollywood Hills has been lifted.

However, restrictions remain small section of the community, specifically the region north of Franklin Avenue, stretching from Camino Palmero Street to N. Sierra Bonita Avenue.

In view of the wildfires and mass evacuations, Red Cross LA has set up emergency shelters for those seeking refuge.

In LA, a total of six fires are blazing in Hollywood Hills, Eaton, Palisades, Sunset, Lidia and Hurst.

Fire officials are investigating the reason behind the massive wildfires across Los Angeles.

The fire started in Palisades at 10:30 AM on Tuesday and has burnt down thousands of acres in Santa Monica and Malibu.

By 6:30 PM on Tuesday, the fire on Eaton broke out in Altadena near Pasedena. By 10:30 PM, the Hurst fire began.

After this, fires in Sunset, Lidia and Hollywood Hills were reported. The cause of all blazes remains under investigation. However, officials believe the Santa Ana winds are behind the rapid growth of the fire storm.

As the wildifires continue to rage, a total of seven fires have been identified across Los Angeles -

1. Palisades fire was first reported at 10:30 AM local time on Tuesday and grew in just 20 minutes it grew from a blaze of 20 acres to more than 200 acres. By Wednesday night the fire was approaching 16,000 acres. At least 30,000 people have so far been ordered to leave their homes.

2. Eaton fire grew to cover 1,000 acres within the first six hours of breaking out. It started in Altadena in the hills above Pasadena at around 18:30 local time on Tuesday. By Wednesday, five deaths had been reported and it had spread to more than 10,000 acres.

3. Hurst fire is located just north of San Fernando and it began burning on Tuesday at around 22:10 local time. The fire triggered an evacuation order in neighbouring Santa Clarita.

4. Sunset fire broke out at around 18:00 in the Hollywood Hills, a residential neighbourhood overlooking the historic Hollywood area of the city. The fire covers around 50 acres and is 0% contained. A mandatory evacuation order is in place.

Contained Fires -

Olivas fire erupted in Ventura County, northwest of Los Angeles, and was burning across about 11 acres of land. However, this fire has been contained.

Woodley fire broke out in Woodley Park at approximately 06:15 local time on Wednesday. But has now been contained by the LA Fire Department.

Lidia fire broke out at around 14:00 on Wednesday in the mountainous Acton area north of Los Angeles. This fire is now 40% contained.

Santa Monica issued an emergency order which includes a curfew from sunset to sunrise in areas where evacuation orders are in effect.

“The Palisades Fire is currently impacting neighborhoods in the northern part of Santa Monica with approximately 2,472 households under a mandatory evacuation order within the city of Santa Monica and 8,338 under a voluntary evacuation warning,” said Mayor Lana Negrete in a  posted on the city라이브 바카라 website.

“This emergency order further assists our first responders and further protects residents as we weather this regional crisis and, ultimately, begin and support recovery efforts," the statement added.

A major factor contributing to the current wildfires acorss Los Angeles is due to the onset of prolonged dry conditions.

In 2024, Los Angeles recorded the highest rainfall in a two-year time span. But once the rain stopped, dry conditions across LA re-emerged.

Speaking to CNN, Ariel Cohen, the meteorologist in charge of the National Weather Service in LA , said, “brush grew from all that precipitation.”

He added that once the rain stopped and dry conditions emerged, there was more vegetation for fires to sear through, therefore making the region more susceptible to widespread fires.

An estimated 1,000 structures have been destroyed in the hilly coastal neighborhood of Pacific Palisades, making it the most destructive fire in Los Angeles history.

The wreckage surpassed that of the Sayre Fire of November 2008, which destroyed 604 structures in Sylmar, the northernmost suburb of the city, according to statistics kept by the Wildfire Alliance, a partnership between the city's fire department and MySafe:LA.

Some 25 square miles (40 square kilometers) burned in Pacific Palisades, which is dotted with celebrity homes and was memorialized by the Beach Boys in their 1960s hit “Surfin' USA.” The flames torched part of Palisades Charter High School, which has been featured in many Hollywood productions, including the 1976 horror movie “Carrie” and the TV series “Teen Wolf.”

The fire destroyed the public library, two major grocery stores, a pair of banks and several boutiques in Palisades Village.

Residents rushing to escape created a traffic jam, blocking emergency vehicles from getting through. Crews used a bulldozer to push the abandoned cars off to the side. Photos depict what some residents describe as an apocalyptic scene.

Dancer-actor Nora Fatehi, who was in Los Angeles, said she and her team were asked to evacuate the city in the wake of devastating wildfires in the US state of California.

Fatehi posted a video on her Instagram Story on Wednesday night, minutes before flying out of the city, home to several Hollywood stars.

“I’m in LA, and the wildfires are crazy. I’ve never seen anything like this. This is insane. We just got an evacuation order like five minutes ago, so I quickly packed all my stuff, and I’m evacuating out of here, out of this area,” she said.

“I have a flight today, I really hope I can catch it. I hope it doesn’t get cancelled because this is scary. I have never experienced this before. I am going to keep you guys updated. Hopefully, I can get out on time. I hope people in LA are safe,” she further said in the video.

Outgoing US President Joe Biden was supposed to leave the country for his scheduled trip to Rome and the Vatican, but he has cancelled the trip and chose to monitor the rescue and relief operations in the Los Angeles wildfires.
