On International Women's Day (IWD), Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said a committee, headed by her, has been formed in a bid to implement the women's welfare scheme Mahila Samriddhi Yojana in the national capital. The scheme will provide monthly financial assistance of rupees 2,500 to each of the poor women.

Besides Gupta, several senior ministers including Ashish Sood, Parvesh Verma, and Kapil Mishra will also be part of the committee.

Promoting the scheme was a key part of the BJP's election campaign in the national capital this year before the assembly polls that took place in February.

BJP promised rupees 2,500 while the then-ruling Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) offered rupees 2,100 per month.

What Did The CM Say?

According to the newly-appointed chief minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi cabinet has approved the allocation of Rs 5,100 crore for the scheme's implementation.

As per PTI, addressing a press conference, the chief minister said, "We had a cabinet meeting earlier in the day and the cabinet has put its stamp of approval on the promise we (the ruling BJP) had made in our (poll) manifesto. It has approved the scheme to support poor women in Delhi."

“Today is Women's Day. We had our cabinet meeting today, and our cabinet has approved the scheme - the promise that we made during the Delhi elections to provide rupees 2500 to the women", Gupta said

“We made a provision of rupees 5100 crores in the Delhi budget for the implementation of the scheme. We have formed the committee, which will be led by me and the registration for the scheme will begin soon - a portal will be launched soon”, the chief minister further added.

Besides CM Rekha Gupta, the same announcement also came from BJP national president J P Nadda.

Speaking at an event in Delhi on the occasion of International Women's Day, Nadda said, "The victory in the national capital would not have been possible without the support of women," Nadda said, acknowledging their role in the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) electoral success.

'Modi's Guarantees Are False': Atishi's Attack Over The Scheme

On February 21, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi CM Atishi slammed Delhi's new BJP-led government over PM Modi's 'false promises' as newly appointed chief minister Rekha Gupta-led cabinet in its first meeting did not pass the proposal to provide Delhi women with financial assistance of rupees 2,500 per month.

"Modi ji had promised that the plan to give ₹ 2500 per month to every woman in Delhi would be passed in the first cabinet meeting. The first cabinet meeting was held yesterday, but the ₹ 2500 scheme was not passed ", Atishi told.

"On the very first day of becoming the Chief Minister,@gupta_rekha ji showed the whole country that Modi ji's guarantee was false. Now the question is - will ₹ 2500 be deposited in the accounts of all women by March 8, or will this another guarantee by Modiji turn out to be a mere slogan?", the AAP leader further added told during the press conference.

In a stern response to to Atishi's allegations, CM Rekha Gupta said, “It's our government; the agenda will be ours. Let us work. She doesn't need to tell us everything; she has done what she has to while in power.”
