Ranya Rao Gold Smuggling Case: Actor Alleges Physical Assault By DRI Officials; Father DGP Rao Sent On Leave

Kannada actress Harshavardhini Ranya also known as Ranya Rao is on the spotlight as key accused in the gold smuggling case and she has alleged that officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) assaulted her and forced her to sign blank and typed papers.

Meanwhile latest reports suggest that her stepfather, DGP rank officer K Ramachandra Rao, the Managing Director of the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation, has been sent on compulsory leave on Saturday.

In a letter addressed to the Additional Director General of the DRI in Bengaluru on March 6, Ranya Rao claimed that a false case had been foisted on her. She reportedly stated, "Your officers did not permit me to explain that I am innocent in this matter."

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has stated in the court that the Karnataka Police Protocol Officer was used in the gold smuggling racket involving actress Ranya Rao.

In its argument against giving bail to Ranya, the central agency told the Special Court for Economic Offences that the accused had travelled to Dubai 27 times since January this year. The court rejected her bail petition later.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence arrested Kannada actress Ranya Rao at Bengaluru International Airport on Match 3 after she was found in possession of gold bars worth Rs 12.56 crore upon her arrival from Dubai.

Following searches at her residence, officials also recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 2.06 crore and Indian currency amounting to Rs 2.67 crore.

Ranya Rao Gold Smuggling Case | Latest Developments

  • According to India Today, Ranya Rao라이브 바카라 father, Ramchandra Rao has been sent on compulsory leave on Saturday.

  • Ranya Rao alleged that the officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) assaulted her and forced her to sign blank and typed papers.

  • Along with the allegation of a false case being framed against her, she stated that she was wrongly accused of carrying more than 14 kg of gold upon her return from Dubai.

  • According to PTI, the actress further claimed that from the time she was detained until she was produced before the court, she was slapped in the face 10 to 15 times. "Despite repeated hitting and slapping, I refused to sign the statement they prepared," she said.

  • She also alleged that she was forced to sign 50 to 60 typed papers and around 40 blank sheets.

  • The actor claimed, "One of the officers told me, 'If you don’t sign, we will expose your father라이브 바카라 name and identity, even though we know he is not involved."

  • The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has stated in the court that the Karnataka Police Protocol Officer was used in the gold smuggling racket involving actress Ranya Rao.

  • In its argument against giving bail to Ranya, the central agency told the Special Court for Economic Offences that the accused had travelled to Dubai 27 times since January this year.

  • DRI further stated, "The investigation till date has unearthed the sophisticated methodology used in smuggling the gold, usage of State Police Protocol Officer to bypass security, Hawala Transaction to transfer the funds from India to Dubai to purchase gold, involvement of larger syndicate."

  • The DRI also said the investigation was under progress to examine international links and also claimed that Rao had not cooperated during the investigation in the custody.

  • The DRI had earlier stated in a press release that gold bars worth Rs 12.56 crore were seized from Ranya at Kempegowda International Airport on March 3 upon her arrival from Dubai. Following searches at her residence, officials also recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 2.06 crore and Indian currency amounting to Rs 2.67 crore.

  • Judge Vishwanath C Gowdar, who presided over the Special Court for Economic Offences, took note of DRI's contentions and rejected her bail petition stating, "In the case on hand, the accused No 1 (Ranya) possessing Resident Identity Card of UAE and having history of traveled to Dubai on 27 occasions since January 2025, is another factor which does not incline the court to extend discretionary relief of granting bail to accused."

  • The Judge also said that the accused is capable to manipulate and tamper the evidences as well as witnesses, which consequently hampers the very trial in the case on hand.

  • It further stated that prima facie at this juncture, the allegations against Ranya are very much forthcoming and the concealment of the gold by her in the form of gold bars while traveling is very much transpiring her intention.
