While transgender athletes had already been barred from competing in elite competitions such as the top two tiers of women라이브 바카라 cricket and The Hundred since January 2025, the ECB had until now allowed participation in tier-three domestic and recreational levels.
That policy has now changed following a pivotal UK Supreme Court ruling delivered on April 15, which legally defined a woman as someone based on biological sex.
In response to the ruling, the ECB reviewed its position and concluded that transgender females and girls would no longer be permitted to take part in the women라이브 바카라 and girls’ game at any level. However, they are still allowed to participate in open and mixed formats of cricket.
“Our regulations for recreational cricket have always aimed at ensuring that cricket remains as inclusive a sport as possible. These included measures to manage disparities, irrespective of someone라이브 바카라 gender, and safeguard the enjoyment of all players,” the ECB said in an official statement.
“However, given the new advice received about the impact of the Supreme Court ruling, we believe the changes announced today are necessary. We acknowledge that this decision will have a significant impact on transgender women and girls.”
The ECB also stressed that while it must align its regulations with the legal landscape, it remains firmly committed to inclusivity and player welfare. “We will work with Recreational Cricket Boards to support people impacted by this change in our regulations.
We await updated guidance from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) and will study this carefully. We maintain that abuse or discrimination has no place in our sport and are committed to ensuring that cricket is played in a spirit of respect and inclusivity,” the board said.
This move mirrors similar actions taken by other governing bodies across English sport. Just a day prior, the Football Association (FA) confirmed that transgender females would no longer be allowed to play in women라이브 바카라 football competitions in England starting June 1.
England Netball followed suit, announcing a ban from September 1 onwards.
