Australia have won the toss and decided to bat first in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Massive day for the 19-year-old Sam Konstas. He becomes the youngest specialist batter to debut for Australia in more than seven decades. And he does it all on a Boxing Day Test in front of a gigantic crowd. Big game for Konstas.

92,000 tickets have been sold for Test. An amazing crowd is set to turn up and it will be bipartisan. A lot of Indian fans in the attendance too. We are in all readiness now. Irfan Pathan and Adam Gilchrist bring out the trophy to the centre.

Konstas does not get a bat on the first six balls of Jasprit Bumrah. Probing stuff from the Indian pace spearhead and Konstas is being welcomed to international cricket with some really tough bowling.

Good six balls to begin with for Siraj. Khawaja is patient and does not fiddle with these dangerously moving deliveries. Another maiden.

A flick towards backward square leg and Sam Konstas has his first runs in international cricket. That will ease some nerves for one of Australia's youngest debutants. First runs for Australia too and they had to wait 14 balls for that.

Fifth ball of the third over and Sam Konstas attempts a reverse lap to Bumrah. That is as audacious as it gets. Konstas does not connect though but that is quite brave or foolish if you look at it that way.

Khawaja gets hit on the pad in the fourth over, second of Siraj, and Rohit decides to go upstairs after the on-field call is given as not out. Review shows height is the problem for India and the umpire, Darren Gough, is right with his call of not out.

First boundary of the Test match. Full from Siraj but on the pads of Khawaja who gets just enough bat on the ball to get it past Rishabh Pant and earn four runs. An eventful over from Siraj. A big appeal and a boundary as well.

Konstas is in his own world right now. He hits Bumrah for a four through a scoop and then goes for the reverse lap over the slips to get a six. Notmany can boast of doing this and certainly not any on Test debut. Brave batting from the 19-year-old. He is in his zone, totally unbothered by the occasion and the crowd and the names of Indian bowlers.

Another reverse on the fifth ball of the over and he gets another four. Exceptional from the youngster. He is going hard and fortune is favouring his bravery.

Bumrah taken for 18! Wow. This does not happen even in T20s. This is incredible stuff from Konstas. 4, 0, 2, 6, 4, 2 in the 11th over and suddenly India are under pressure. Some exceptional strokeplay from the debutant against the best bowler in the world. Now, that is what we call a generational talent.

Just 52 balls taken to reach the 50 mark but more than the runs it has been the way in which he has made those. And even more than that, the way he has torn apart the best bowler in the world, Jasprit Bumrah. Stuff of dreams for Konstas.

It is a hot day in Melbourne and the temperatures have been further increased by some super exciting batting from the debutant Sam Konstas. He has taken Jasprit Bumrah of all people to the cleaners. Amazing debut for him. India are under pressure. Though, the last few overs have been economical from Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja.

The umpire gives it out and Konstas decides against the review. Massive wicket for India. And end of an insane innings. One of the best debut innings you will ever see.

It was Sam Konstas who emerged as a star in the first session as he smashed Jasprit Bumrah of all people to score an exciting half-century before Ravindra Jadeja ended his debut innings. Marnus Labuschagne is looking confident at the crease and Usman Khawaja is also set. It could turn out to be a long day for India.

Just four runs so far from the five overs that India have bowled since the lunch break. Good start to the second session by Bumrah and Akash Deep. The duo began with four maidens in a row before Khawaja broke the shackles with a pull to midwicket boundary for four.

Indian bowlers right on the money so far in the second session. Eight overs bowled and just seven runs conceded. Brilliant session so far and both Khawaja and Labuschagne have been put under pressure. But the duo is known to soak the pressure very well. An important phase of the game.

It was a tough series so far for Usman Khawaja but he finally gets some runs. A fifty for him, his first of the series after real struggles early on. Sam Konstas took away all the limelight earlier today but Khawaja has been quite impressive as well. He has soaked in the pressure and got boundaries off the bad balls. He reaches fifty in 102 balls.

Both teams would be happy with the way things have gone so far in this session. India would have definitely wanted a wicket and they seemed to be getting close multiple times but have not yet taken the second wicket. Australia are slowly but steadily building towards a good first innings total.

Usman Khawaja is gone. Jasprit Bumrah strikes. Not the best of balls from Bumrah. A short ball and Khawaja set himself up for a pull but is a bit early on the shot. The ball catches the toe edge of the bat and lands in the safe hands of KL Rahul at midwicket. Totally against the run of the play. Bumrah can not believe it how easily he got that wicket out of a nothing delivery. He won't complain though. Khawaja goes for 57(121).

Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne now trying to stitch a partnership for Australia. They have batted almost six overs since the Khawaja dismissal. Not many runs so far but the duo is standing there. The pitch is not yet settled and we are seeing edges here and there.

Second session done. Australia still in control. Labuschagne and Smith are in the middle. We saw Usman Khawaja falling in the second session where Australia were kept on the toes with some good bowling from Indian bowlers. In total, 28 overs were bowled and 64 runs scored.

Steve Smith is marking his guard and Marnus Labuschagne is standing at the non-striker's end. Ravindra Jadeja ready with the ball. The final session of the opening day of the Boxing Day Test begins.

A half-century for Marnus Labuschagne. Another innings where he has not looked at his best but somehow managed to tick the scoreboard. 114 balls is what he takes to get to the 50 mark. He had scored a fifty in the last Test as well and this time, he would like to make it big.

Runs are coming quite quickly now for Australia in the last session. 45 runs in seven overs after the tea break. Smith and Labuschagne have put the foot on the accelerator. Smith consistently using his big trigger to get outside the off stump. Labuschagne too looking solid and is batting on 66.

Sundar dismisses Labuschagne. A lapse of concentration from Labuschagne as he jumps out of his crease aiming to go over mid off. Sundar's delivery is a bt away from Labuschagne and he still goes through with the shot. Kohli jumps and ensures the ball does not pass him. A good catch and Labuschagne yet again gone after fifty. He goes back for 72(145). Sundar has his first scalp of the day.

Bumrah removes Head! That is massive for India. The thorn in their way all through this series has been sent back for a Duck. Rohit Sharma brought back Bumrah as soon as Head came in and he has been rewarded. A good length delivery from round the wicket. Head shoulders arms but the ball takes away his off stump. Bumrah and India will be relieved with that.

Mitchell Marsh is the new man in and he negotiates the last three balls of the over.

Bumrah gets his third wicket to send Mitchell Marsh back to the pavillion. India have got three wickets now in quick succession. In fact within just nine runs, Labuschagne, Head and Marsh have been sent back. Marsh wanted to take Bumrah's short of good length ball on but only gets an edge to the wicketkeeper. Marsh's poor run continues as he gets just 4.

Steve Smith gets to his half-century. He got a century in the last match too but this is easily the most fluent Smith has looked in this series. A single on off Bumrah and he completes his half-century. Scary signs so far for India in terms of how settled Smith has looked at the crease today.

Carey and Smith are now trying to counter attack after a spell of good bowling from India where the visitors took three wickets in quick succession. 30 runs from 30 balls for this duo so far. They have also smashed a six each in this partnership.

So, 80 overs bowled and India can now take the second new ball.

But they do not and Nitish Reddy continues with the current ball. The partnership is now closing in on 50 and the impact India created by taking thre quick wickets is now somewhat blunted. They would want this partnership to end before the close of play.

India take the second new ball and right away it is Jasprit Bumrah into the attack . An eventful first over from the second new ball. Seven runs from it but Carey was not quite in control in the over.

Akash Deep gets Alex Carey. Beautiful delivery and Carey would think it was unplayable. Akash comes from round the wicket and bowls it just outside the off stump on a good length. The ball kicks up and moves a little away to take the edge of Carey's bat and Rishabh Pant completes the catch. Akash Deep has a wicket after so many chances he created in this game.

That is it for the first day of the Boxing Day Test match. Australia would be a bit disappointed. They were in a really dominant position till the second session but four wickets in the last session have dragged the hosts back a little. Smith is batting on 68 and Cummins on 8.

A tough start for India but they have managed to pull things back a little. The fourth Test opened with some of the most audacious Test match batting the world has seen as Sam Konstas displayed his full range of shots to bring up a 52-ball half-century. Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne too hit fifties. Travis Head was gone for aDuck. Steve Smith is currently batting on 68. For India, Bumrah was yet again the main man with three wickets. Australia will begin the second day from 311/6.

A good of cricket at the MCG. Brilliant battle between bat and ball. Action continues tomorrow from 5am IST.
