Rohit stepped out to launch Rachin Ravindra for a six in the 27th over only to miss the ball totally and get stumped. India had just lost Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli and the Indian captain was expected to take the game deep but he chose otherwise which resulted in his dismissal at a crucial juncture in the game. At the time of his dismissal, India still needed 130 runs from 143 balls.

Even though Rohit departed with a lot of work still to do for India, he had earlier given a blazing start to his team.

Chasing 252 to win the trophy, Rohit pulled Kyle Jamieson for a maximum on just the second ball of the chase. The Indian skipper then continued his hitting momentum with boundaries off William O'Rourke and Nathan Smith.

Rohit completed his half-century off 41 balls right after the first powerplay ended. After the half-ton, the Kiwi spinners put on a stranglehold to make scoring difficult for the Men In Blue.

Gill and Kohli were dismissed within four balls in the 18th and 19th over as the Kiwis found an opening to come back into the game. Rohit soon was stumped at 76 off 83 to leave India under a little bit of pressure. However, the Indian captain had done enough earlier to keep things under control for his side.
