The eleventh edition of the continental 50-over cricket tournament kicked off on Friday with Group B clashes between holders Bangladesh and Afghanistan in Dubai, and Sri Lanka vs Nepal in Sharjah. India, Japan, Japan and the hosts United Arab Emirates are in Group A.
After the conclusion of the group stage, the two top teams in each group will progress to the semi-finals, scheduled for December 6. The final is slated for December 8.
India, led by Mohamed Amaan, are chasing a record-extending ninth title while Pakistan will look to end a decade-long trophy drought. They last won the ACC U19 Asia Cup in 2012, when they jointly lifted the trophy with India at the Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Mohamed Amaan-led Indian side features some fine talents, including Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who became the youngest player to be sold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction history. Kiran Chormale will serve as Amaan's deputy.
The Pakistani side also boasts a host of talented youngsters like Mohammad Riazullah, Shahzaib Khan and Tayyab Arif. The trio featured in the last edition, and this time also, they play under the captaincy of Saad Baig.
