Rahana, 36, previously played for the franchise in 2022 and is now their skipper after rejoining them in November's auction.

The Knight Riders are the title holders after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad in last season's final, and Rahane is confident he can lead them to a successful defence of their trophy.

He said: "It's an honour to be asked to lead KKR, which has been one of the most successful franchises in the IPL.

"I think we have an excellent and balanced squad. I look forward to working with everyone and taking up the challenge of defending our title."

Rahane scored only 133 runs in seven matches for KKR in 2022 but has enjoyed a resurgence with Chennai Super Kings since then.

He scored 326 runs in the 2023 competition and another 242 last year, form he will aim to replicate as leader of his new side.
