Rain Playing Spoilsport On Opening Ceremony
Reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are all set to take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Saturday, March 22.
However, despite the upbeat mood surrounding the grand fixture, the weather could dampen with its arrival. As per local weather authorities, there is a forecast of thunderstorms and rain on match day.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in Kolkata. The weather will also remain rainy with chances of precipitation high in the morning and low but significant in the evening as well.
Varun Chakaravarthy On Saliva Ban Lift
Ahead of the IPL 2025, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the bowlers can now apply saliva on the ball, a first since 2019. However, ace Indian spinner and KKR star Varun Chakaravarthy is of the opinion that applying saliva on the ball won't make much difference.
Speaking ahead of the IPL 2025 opener against RCB, Varun said, "I did see the rule changes that have come. I don't think that is going to make too much difference with respect to saliva. Maybe the dew part, where you can change the ball, might help the spinners."
"The moment they change the ball, in the 11-12th over, the spinner would be bowling. It won't be that wet, the ball won't be that wet," he added.
Virat Kohli's Intense Training Session
Former RCB captain Virat Kohli was seen in an intense batting session ahead of their opening IPL 2025 match against KKR at the Eden Gardens on Saturday, March 22. The batting ace was seen sharpening his batting skills to the likes of Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Following that, Kohli was seen having throwdowns in the nets, and then practiced hitting big shots outside the nets.
