The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will get underway in March midweek, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla revealed to the media on Sunday, January 12. (January 13 Blog | More Cricket News)
“The IPL will begin from 23 March,” Shukla told reporters after a BCCI Special General Meeting (SGM) in Mumbai.
This means that the 18th edition of the IPL will kick-start two weeks after the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final, which will be held on March 9.
However, other news publications and media outlets reported that the IPL 2025 could start off on March 21.
At the IPL 2025 mega auction in Saudi Arabia in November, Rishabh Pant became the costliest player ever, after Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) acquired his services for INR 27 crore.
Shreyas Iyer went to Punjab Kings (PBKS) for INR 26.75 crore. KKR are the reigning champions of the IPL, after having defeated Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final of IPL 2024 by eight wickets.
WPL venues to be finalised soon
Following the SGM, Shukla was also part of Women's Premier League Committee meeting.
"The WPL venues have been almost finalised. They will be declared soon," said the BCCI vice-president.
The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 will get underway in February 7 with the final to be held on March 2.
Champions Trophy selection on January 18 or 19
Shukla added that the selection meeting for the Champions Trophy will be held on January 18 or 19.
The selectors had announced the squad for the five-match series against England on Saturday but did not name the squad for the following three ODIs against England as well as the Champions Trophy beginning February 19.
India play their Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh on February 20. Under the hybrid model, India will all play their games in Dubai while the other league games will be played in host country Pakistan.
