Buttler announced he would step down from his role on Friday, after England's defeat to Afghanistan confirmed their elimination from the Champions Trophy with a game to spare.

His reign ended in miserable fashion on Saturday, as South Africa beat England by seven wickets to ensure they finished top of Group B.

England's next white-ball series is against West Indies, starting in late May, while the next global event in the shortened formats is next year's T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Vice-captain Harry Brook has been tipped to replace Buttler, though his status as a regular in the Test team could impact his ability to carry out the role.

Speaking after Saturday's defeat, McCullum would not rule out a return to England having separate captains for each of the three formats, which has not happened in over a decade.

"If it's the same person, great, if it's two, that's great too," McCullum said. "Give me a couple of weeks to work it out and get this thing back on track.

"Give us a couple of weeks to work it all out, to digest what's happened over the past month and a half, and then we will start to plot and plan our way forward from there."

Liam Livingston, Phil Salt and Sam Billings have also been touted as potential successors to Buttler, while the prospect of appointing a player currently outside the international setup has also been mooted.

James Vince and Sam Curran could both fit that bill, and Chris Woakes believes they should be considered.

"It could definitely work, I don't see why not," the England bowler told BBC Sport's Test Match Special podcast.

"I feel we are in a stage in the cricket landscape where that can be the way forward. The formats are very different. Extremely different. 50-over is not just an extended T20 game.바카라 웹사이트

"It's not, there are more games within the game, which is closer to Test cricket and it's about being able to do things for longer."
