The two teams are vying for a place in the quarter-finals. Though Villa will start as favourites in the match, it will be Unai Emery's team's fifth game in 14 days and they have a depleted squad, with a number of players injured.
This is the first time in 10 years that Villa have reached the fifth round of the FA Cup. The Villans came from behind to beat West Ham 2-1 in the third round before beating another Premier League team in Tottenham 2-1 in the fourth round to book their place in the fifth round.
But despite all that, and the fact that Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are already out, Emery says his team is "not a contender" to win the FA Cup this season. "We are not a contender in the FA Cup to win the title, but to try and compete in the competition and have a way for a trophy and Europe is very important," he said ahead of the game.
“And prestige. Every club, the players, coaches, we like trying to get prestige as well. It is a way for Europe, in the Europa League. It could be [the best way], we have three ways, Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup. We are not contenders. Why? Because there are other teams with more options than us to win this competition,” Emery added.
Cardiff are into the fifth round of the competition for the first time since the 2013-14 season. Their journey in this edition began in the third round when they won 1-0 at Sheffield United. They then beat Stoke on penalties to book their spot in the fifth round.
