First thing first. From the Asian Confederation, eight teams + one via intercontinental playoff will qualify for the next edition of the World Cup.
The top two from three groups of six teams each in round three of Asian qualifiers will book make the 2026 finals in the Americas. Teams finishing third and fourth will progress to the fourth round, followed by playoffs, including inter-confederation shootouts.
Qatar, the 2022 World Cup hosts, need a win against North Korea to keep their automatic qualification hopes alive. With two wins and one draw in six matches, the Maroons are fourth in Group A which also has leaders Iraq, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Kyrgyzstan. After the North Korea match, Luis Garcia's men will take on Kyrgyzstan, Iran, and Uzbekistan.
North Korea are rooted at the bottom of the table. They have two draws, 2-2 against Qatar in the reverse fixture which was played in a neutral venue (in Laos), and 1-1 against the UAE.
Winless Chollima, a colloquial calling borrowed from a mythical horse of the same name, they are virtually out of the automatic qualification reckoning. North Korea last qualified for the World Cup in 2010.
The Sin Yong-nam-coached team will then host the UAE in Saudi Arabia, and venues for the matches against Kyrgyzstan and Iran are yet to be confirmed.

North Korea lead the all-time head-to-head record against Qatar 4-3 in 13 meetings. But the last time North Korea beat Qatar was in 2010, during a December international friendly (1-0). Qatar are unbeaten since that defeat.
