While attention was on Carlos Sainz in the season opener, it was Albon who outperformed his new team-mate in the qualifying to start on the third row in Sunday's race.
Albon will start behind McLaren duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, reigning world champion Max Verstappen, George Russell and Yuki Tsunoda at the Albert Park Circuit.
Former Ferrari driver Sainz also made it to the Q3 and took P10 on his debut race weekend for Williams.
