The National Centre of Sports Sciences and Research (NCSSR) is a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the performance of elite athletes through high-level research, education, and innovation in sports sciences and sports medicine. (More Sports News)
The scheme has two components: One is setting up of NCSSR and other is focused on creation of support to Sports Sciences Departments in Six Universities and Sports Medicine Departments in Six Medical Colleges/ Institutes/ Hospitals.
The primary vision of NCSSR is to position itself as a globally renowned institution in sports science and medicine, focusing on Olympic excellence for Indian athletes.
Its objectives include applying scientific principles to enhance sporting performance, developing athletes' maximum potential, disseminating sports science knowledge, testing and certifying food supplements, and using Ayurvedic/homeopathic medicine in sports.
Speaking on the inauguration of the NCSSR, Dr. Mandaviya said the Centre will serve as a hub for high-level research, education, and innovation aimed at enhancing elite athlete performance. He emphasized that such initiatives will be instrumental in fulfilling India라이브 바카라 long-term sporting vision under Viksit Bharat by 2047.
"Let us all work together to build a strong sports culture for a new India," Dr. Mandaviya said.
As per the scheme, selection for funding is based on the eligibility criteria rather than geographical location, with the University of Calcutta in West Bengal being one of the institutions selected for establishing a Department of Sports Science.
The NCSSR scheme aims to develop evidence-based studies to promote the importance of sports and exercise across all age groups, contributing to the growth of India's sports and fitness ecosystem.
Initially approved with a budget of INR 344 Cr, the scheme was reviewed and extended with an updated outlay of INR 260 Cr.
Key educational objectives under the NCSSR scheme include offering M.Sc. (Sports Sciences) and MD/DSM in Sports Medicine, enhancing athlete performance through sports science and medicine, and improving rehabilitation for sports injuries.
Additionally, the scheme aims to increase the availability of trained experts in sports sciences and medicine, reducing dependence on foreign professionals.
The total cost of the scheme is INR 107.00 crore for NCSSR operations and INR 237.00 crore for support to selected educational institutions.
