In the quarter-final draw, the winner of Group B was set to face the second-placed country in Sydney; however, that will not happen. The rules stipulate that no runner-up teams can compete against the winner of their group before the finals of the competition.
On Wednesday, Poland, the winner of Group B, faced Czechia in the final match of Group B play. As a result, these two countries cannot meet in the quarter-finals.
The runner-up team will swap positions with the winner of the lowest-ranked group from the specified city. In this case, Czechia will swap places with Great Britain, the winner of Group F, and will face Italy, the winner of Group D. Great Britain will compete against Poland.
Earlier, Italy won Group D to qualify for the quarter-finals. They have previously won the last two Davis Cups and were runners-up two years ago to the U.S. in the inaugural season-opening mixed teams event. Italy succeeded in winning their group without the participation of world No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
All tournament matches will be held in Sydney from Thursday through Sunday's final.
