YouTube has updated its policies on posting gambling content on its platform with the changes set to take effect from later this month. (More Sports News)
Although YouTube has not banned posting gambling content on the platform but it has tightened some rules especially with regards to young viewers.
The updated policies will prohibit the use of online gambling sites or applications that are not certified by Google. It means that a creator will not be able to includes URLs, embedded links, logos, verbal mentions and visual displays of the sites which Google does not certify. Also, even if the site is Google certified, one can not use it in case it promotes guaranteed returns.
YouTube has also put up some age restriction on viewing gambling content. People below the age of 18 will now not be able to watch content which has online casinos and gambling applications, excluding online sports betting and depictions of in-person gambling. One will have to log in and must be above 18 years of age to watch such content.
The updated policy is yet another step by Google in the direction to regulate gambling-related content and advertising.
The updated policy will come into effect from March 19.
In February this year, Google had announced updates to its 'Gambling and Games' advertising policy. This comes into effect in April this year.
The revised policy introduces country-specific guidelines and enforces stricter compliance with certification requirements for gambling advertisers.
