One Step Forward, Two Steps Back On Transgender Rights

Donald Trump ran a campaign that played extreme partisan politics on the issue of transgender identity, and after taking over as president, immediately moved to eliminate recognition for transgenders. 바카라 has in previous issues and articles dealt with the issue of transgender identity in detail

Within hours of being sworn in as President, Donald Trump signed a sweeping executive order that marked a major rollback of LGBTQ rights for Americans. The order directed the federal government that they would recognise only two sexes—male and female—based on biological roles. The administration framed this move as a measure to protect women from what it calls “gender extremism.”

Under the new directive, government-issued identification documents such as passports, visas, and Global Entry cards must reflect a person라이브 바카라 sex assigned at birth and will not have the option of marking transgenders separately.

“They just have to use their God-given sex, which was decided at birth,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a press briefing. “Thanks to President Trump, it is now the official policy of the federal government that there are only two sexes — male and female.”

Trump라이브 바카라 election campaign was heavily focused on anti-transgender messaging, with record spending on advertisements targeting LGBTQ+ rights. His order will undo years of progress for the community, with rights organisations warning that this will take transgender people back by decades.

This decision comes at a time when bans were already in place by some states where gender-affirming care for transgender minors was under particular scrutiny. Nineteen states passed laws restricting access to gender-affirming health care for children and teenagers, though the specifics vary. Some states enacted laws that can punish health care professionals who provide such treatments with prison time, while others include limited exceptions allowing certain medication-based or nonsurgical care to continue.

According to the Williams Institute School of Law at UCLA, there are about 1.6 million transgender people aged 13 and older in the US, many of whom will now face challenges much beyond updating their documents to match their gender identity.

Trump has also signed another order to end all "diversity, equity, and inclusion" initiatives in federal agencies.

The stance on LGBTQ+ rights around the world has grown increasingly intolerant, with governments introducing policies that roll back hard-won gains. This global trend, often driven by right-wing ideologies, has left LGBTQ+ communities feeling marginalised and vulnerable.

In Russia, President Vladimir Putin has enacted strict laws, including a 2023 ban on medical or legal gender changes and earlier bans on same-sex marriage and LGBTQ+ "propaganda." Poland has declared large areas as "LGBT-free zones," while Hungary outlawed legal gender recognition in 2020. In the UK, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak라이브 바카라 government was criticised for a lack of progressive action, including plans to ban conversion practices.

Brazil continues to record the highest number of murders of transgender and queer individuals globally. Meanwhile, countries like Romania, Latvia, Lithuania, Cyprus, Belarus, and Bulgaria provide minimal protections for transgender and LGBTQ+ individuals.

In India, the situation remains grim. In August, 2024, 바카라 reported on how the transgender community fell victim to high levels of discrimination and hate crimes despite there being an act for their protection which is rarely invoked.

In our 11 Sept, 2023 issue, 바카라 dealt extensively with the representation of transgenders, with Duha, Co-founder, Intersex Human Rights India, writing on how acts of gendered people are harming and punishing the existence of sexual minorities.
