An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 on the Richter Scale struck Nepal on Friday evening, National Center for Seismology (NCS) said. Geologically, Nepal is situated in one of the most active tectonic zones which makes the country extremely vulnerable to earthquakes.
It has been reported that light tremors felt across parts of Northern India. According to NCS, the earthquake struck at a depth of 20km at 7.52pm (local time).
Myanmar Earthquake
The earthquake in Nepal was reported just days after a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar and Thailand and killed over 2,700 people.
The earthquake which struck around midday on last Friday, was the strongest to hit the Southeast Asian country in more than a century, causing the collapse of both ancient pagodas and modern buildings.
Myanmar's military leader, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, stated in a televised address on Tuesday that the death toll had reached 2,719 and could exceed 3,000. He also confirmed that 4,521 people were injured and 441 were still missing.
