The Election Commission of Bangladesh has cancelled the registration of the Awami League, the political party formerly led by deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, thereby disqualifying it from participating in the upcoming national elections. Interim Prime Minister Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has indicated that the elections are expected to be held between December 2025 and June 2026, according to PTI.

The Commission라이브 바카라 decision, announced on Monday, came shortly after the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a formal directive prohibiting all activities of the Awami League and its associated organisations. The ban, implemented under the Anti-Terrorism Act, restricts the party from producing any form of publication or media content, as well as organising rallies, meetings, or any online or offline political mobilisation. The restrictions will remain in force until the conclusion of an ongoing tribunal probe into the party라이브 바카라 leadership.

As reported by The Hindu, the move follows recent unrest and an investigation into the alleged involvement of top Awami League leaders in violent actions during anti-government demonstrations held in mid-2024. The interim administration has justified the clampdown by citing threats to national security and significant civilian casualties during the protests.

A government adviser, quoted by PTI, warned that public expressions of support for the Awami League on social media could lead to legal consequences, including arrest.

In response, the Awami League released a statement condemning the government라이브 바카라 actions, accusing it of eroding democratic principles and enabling politically motivated violence. The party also alleged that thousands of its members have been detained and that its offices—including its central headquarters in Dhaka—have been attacked and set on fire.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangladesh라이브 바카라 founding leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, fled the country on August 5, 2024, amid nationwide protests and the collapse of her government after nearly 15 years in power. She has since been residing in India, along with several senior party officials and former cabinet ministers. As reported by PTI, the Bangladesh police have requested Interpol to issue Red Corner Notices against Hasina and 11 others in connection with the crackdown on protestors.

In February 2025, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights reported that as many as 1,400 civilians may have died during the three-week protest period. The UN body urged the Bangladeshi authorities to refrain from banning political parties, cautioning that such measures could undermine efforts to restore a genuine multiparty democratic system.

The Awami League, which played a pivotal role in Bangladesh라이브 바카라 war of independence in 1971, has been a key force in national politics for decades. Its exclusion from the electoral process represents a dramatic shift in the country라이브 바카라 political landscape.

Interim Prime Minister Yunus has said the timing of the next election will depend on developments in the legal proceedings and the broader security situation.
