US President Donald Trump kicked off his Middle East diplomatic tour with a high-profile visit to Saudi Arabia, where he and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman signed a sweeping strategic partnership aimed at strengthening economic and defense ties between the two nations, BBC reported. Among the agreements between the US and Saudi Arabia announced today is "the largest defense sales agreement in history", the White House said according to BBC.

The agreement, formalized in a series of memorandums and letters of intent, outlines expanded cooperation across several critical sectors. This would include a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on energy cooperation, a letter of intent for future defense agreements, which could include up to $100 billion in U.S. arms sales to Saudi Arabia, several MoUs covering joint efforts on mineral resource development and coordination with the US Department of Justice and collaborative initiatives in space exploration and combating infectious diseases, BBC reported.

The event drew some of the United States' most influential political and business leaders, including Elon Musk and senior executives from Boeing, Google, Amazon, and Coca-Cola — a signal of the deepening economic ties between the two countries.
