In a sharp escalation in cross-border shelling, Pakistan targetted civilian population residing along the Line of Control (LOC). While intense artillery fire was heard in the Uri, Tangdhar and Kupwara, the worst hit was Poonch where at least sixteen civilians have been killed and several others have sustained injuries.
In Uri, two houses were destroyed and six others partially damaged, resulting in injuries to nine civilians and leaving one critical.
The border belts of Kupwara, lacking individual shelters and with few community bunkers, have left civilians exposed and vulnerable. Many residents have begun cleaning and preparing old bunkers, while others have no safe havens to return to.
This surge in violence follows India's Operation Sindoor, which targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan.
