At least 13 people have been killed and 70 injured after the roof of a nightclub in the Dominican Republic collapsed on Tuesday morning. As per local reports, over 90 ambulance transfers were made to different hospitals as search and rescue operations continue.
As per reports, the incident took place in Santo Domingo. Local media added that the incident occurred during the performance by merengue singer Rubby Perez.
"Our city wakes up to a terrible tragedy that occurred at the Jet Set nightclub. My deepest sympathy goes out to the families still waiting for news of their loved ones," Santo Domingo Mayor Carolina Mejía de Garrigó wrote on social media platform X.
As per an AP report, crew are searching for potential survivors in the rubble at Jet Set, said Juan Manuel Méndez, director of the Center of Emergency Operations.
“We presume that many of them are still alive, and that is why the authorities here will not give up until not a single person remains under that rubble,” said Mendez.
Furthermore, reports add that among the injured is merengue singer Rubby Pérez, who was performing at the time of the incident.
