Pop star Katy Perry, activist Amanda Nguyen and four other women are all set to take off on the Blue Origin NS-31 flight.

Perry and Nguyen are part of the first all-women space crew for the space mission under Amazon founder Jeff Bezos company - Blue Origin.

Blue Origin's New Shepard NS-31 mission is set to take off on April 15, 2025, from West Texas at 8:30 AM (13:30 GMT)

All About The New Shepard Mission

The New Shepard Mission will comprise of the first all-female space crew since 1963. This crew consists of -

  • Jeff Bezos' fiancé Lauren Sanchez Former NASA engineer Aisha Bowe

  • Activist Amanda Nguyen

  • CBS presenter Gayle King

  • Film Producer Kerianne Flynn

  • Singer Katy Perry

The last all-women space crew was over 60 years ago when Soviet Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to travel into space during a solo mission on the Vostok 6

This mission is part of Blue Origin's sub-orbital space tourism programme. The flight is aimed to go just past the Karman line, which is the official boundary of space located 100 kilometres above Earth.

This mission also marks Blue Origin's 11th crewed suborbital flight.

The flight is expected to last around 11 minutes. As they cross the Karman line, the all-women space crew will also experience a few moments of weightlessness.

The spacecraft is fully autonomous and will require no pilots, nor will the crew manually operate the vehicle.

After the flight, the capsule will return to Earth with a parachute-assisted soft landing.
